To Trust Is To Give Acts 10:24-48 The Story Of Peter s Steps Towards A Relationship He Never Knew God Wanted For Him
Jesus died and rose again to give us more than this world or our minds can ever imagine. He came to give us a new life. We receive more and more of this new life by giving Him more and more of our current life.
Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Den, y se les dar : se les echar en el regazo una medida llena, apretada, sacudida y desbordante. Porque con la medida que midan a otros, se les medir a ustedes.
the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many. Matthew 20:28

Kingdom Principle: New life comes from trusting God enough to give Him what I already have. My Problem: I believe in God, but I trust myself more than I trust Him.
At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a [Roman] centurion . . . 2 He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly. . . . Now send men to Joppa to bring back a [Jewish] man named Peter. 6 He is staying with Simon the tanner . . . 7 Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout [Roman] soldier . . . Acts 10: 1-7
In the Babylonian Talmud, there was the prayer (of thanksgiving) of the blessing of identity. Blessed are you, Eternal God, who has not made me a gentile, a woman or a dog. There is some suggestion that this prayer took on more prominence with the expansion of the multicultural church because by the time of Rabbi Yehuda ben Ilai (2nd c.) this was obligated to be prayed by Jewish men three times a day.
Caesarea was the showpiece for Roman culture in Israel and even had a temple dedicated to Caesar in it. The Jews hated Caesarea and rejected it as part of Israel in any way. The population there had more gentiles than Jews. According to Josephus, riots between these two groups sparked the Jewish war against Rome in 66AD that lead to the Jewish population of 20,000 in Caesarea being massacred. ~ Dr. Charles Pffeifer
[As Peter was praying] he saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down . . .12 It contained all kinds of [animals that were unclean and forbidden to eat as a Jew]. 13 Then a voice told him, Get up, Peter. Kill and eat. 14 Surely not, Lord! Peter replied. I have never eaten anything impure or unclean. 15 The voice spoke Do not call anything impure that God has made clean. Acts 10:11-15
The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa went along. 25 As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. 26 But Peter made him get up. Stand up, he said, I am only a man myself. Acts 10:24-25
27 Talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people. 28 He said to them: You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with a Gentile or visit him. But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean [unimportant]. Acts 10:27-28
Cornelius answered . . . 33 I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us. 34Then Peter began to speak: I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right. Acts 10:33-35
You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. . . . 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. Acts 10:37-38
39We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They [including ROMAN SOLDIERS] killed him by hanging him on a tree, 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. . . . 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead Acts 10:39-42
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Acts 10:44-46
Then Peter said, 47Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have. 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days. Acts 10: 46-48
We trust God by trusting the new people He leads us to.
Growing To Trust By Growing To Give Acts 10:14-15 Surely not, Lord! Peter replied.
