  2. John Flinn John Flinn Flinn joined the Army in 1968 instead of attending law school. He received training in leadership school, sergeant school, and dog handler school before deploying to Vietnam. He served in Vietnam as a scout dog handler in an infantry company. During the war, he was injured in combat and received the Purple Heart for his service. He separated from service in December 1969 and went back to university. He struggled to find acceptance upon his return home and found civilian life isolating.

  3. Jaspen Jaspen Boothe Boothe Boothe joined the Army in 2000, hoping to provide a legacy of service for her son, Brandon. In 2005, two terrible events changed her life: Hurricane Katrina destroyed her home. She learned she had an aggressive form of cancer. After she received treatment, she remained in the Reserves. In 2010, she founded Final Salute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving homeless women veterans. Since its founding, Final Salute has assisted over 3,600 women veterans and children in over 30 states and territories.

  4. Wes Moore Wes Moore Captain Moore served a combat tour with the Army s 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan. Moore s experience fueled his desire to raise awareness of military life through storytelling. Moore has written four books: The Other Wes Moore, Discovering Wes Moore, The Work, and This Way Home. Moore is also involved in a variety of productions. He has hosted, directed and produced programs on OWN as well as CNN. The television series Coming Back with Wes Moore explores the challenges faced by Veterans reintegrating into civilian life.
