  2. Human Resource Management In the 21st century, companies operate in a constantly changing environment. One way of adapting to these changes is to invest in a company s human resources. Human resource management (HRM) refers to the policies, practices, and systems that influence employee behavior, attitudes, and performance. HRM incudes recruitment, selection, performance management, and training.

  3. Companies exist to make money, and every business function is expected to prove how it contributes to business success. Training can have a direct and indirect impact on organizational success. To help a company achieve its strategic goals, training should be aligned with the business strategy, the plan that integrates the company s goals, policies, and actions. Strategic T&D

A companys business strategy has a strong influence on determining: The importance of training relative to other HRM functions, The number of resources are devoted to training, The type and amount of training that occurs, The training development process, The extent to which training is customized, and The extent to which training is open to all individuals. Business Strategy

  5. Characteristics of Strategic T&D Learning goals are aligned with business goals. The impact of learning is measured. External stakeholders, like customers, vendors, and suppliers, are included. Training is focused on developing competencies for the most critical jobs. The learning function is integrated with other HRM functions. Multiple methods are used to deliver instruction. Leadership development programs are used to plan for future demands.
