One of the most widespread uses of survey research today is for rating radio and television programs. Commercial ratings of network radio programs were first undertaken by the C.E. Hooper Company in 1935. Then, A.C. Nielsen Company , founded in the early 1940s, invented its mechanical recording device, the audimeter, that was attached to radio receivers to monitor the station and the amount of time a set was tuned in to it. Nielsen bought the Hooper Company in 1950. by the mid-1970s Nielsen was offering an instantaneous Nielsen service by connecting some 1200 sets to a central computer for overnight tabulation of audiences.

Skim the following passage to answer the following question: (3 mnts) What is the passage about? A. The effects of publicity B. Competition between systems C. Making general proposals D. The transformation of the world around us
It is true that in publicity one brand of manufacture, one firm, competes with another, but it is also true that every publicity image confirms and enhances every other. Publicity is not merely an assembly of competing messages: it is a language in itself which is always being used to make the same general proposal. Within publicity, choices are offered between this cream and that cream, that car and this car, but publicity as a system only makes a single proposal. It proposes to each of us that we transform ourselves, or our lives by buying something.
Scan the text to answer the following question: (3 mnts) According to the author, publicity makes one single proposal which is: A. To buy this car but not that car B. To buy more products C. To transform ourselves by buying something D. To enhance competition

ECOSYSTEMS An ecosystem is a group of animals and plants living in a specific region and interacting with one another and with their physical environment. Ecosystems include physical and chemical components, such as soils, water, and nutrients. These components support the organisms living in the ecosystem. Ecosystems can also be thought of as the interactions among all organisms in a given habitat. These organisms may range from large animals to microscopic bacteria and work together in various ways. For example, one species may serve as food for another. People are part of the ecosystems where they live and work. Human activities, such as housing developments and trash disposal, can greatly harm or even destroy local ecosystems. Proper ecosystem management is crucial for the overall health and diversity of our planet. We must find ways to protect local ecosystems without stifling economic development.
