  2. What is biosecurity? Biosecurity means taking steps to prevent your animals from getting infected by a disease. Biosecurity measures for ASF control include those practices that are taken ;

  3. Why do we need biosecurity measures? Only good biosecurity will prevent spread of ASF Farmer awareness of ASF biosecurity is therefore important A farmer using a disinfectant foot bath for the first time

  4. Biosecurity measures for ASF control Farm hygiene, Treatment of swill for feeding pigs, Disposal of dead animals at home, Proper slaughtering of pigs, Farm tool sharing and Tick and rodent control

  5. Farm hygiene Provide footwear and clothing for people working in the pig units Use a double fence around your pig unit to limit visitors Remove grass from around the pens to control ticks Do not share farm equipment Regularly clean the pig house Put a foot-bath at the entrance of the pens to kill the virus 5 |

  6. Treatment of swill Swill means household left overs Boil the swill for 20 minutes before giving it to pigs If you can, avoid using swill

  7. Disposal of dead animals and waste products When your pigs die, dig a pit 6 feet deep and bury them including waste products You can also burn the dead pigs
