The Challenge & Solution Challenge to get Domestic resources invested in Nutrition: National Regional (Africa- AU 2063 ) County Advocacy solution: o 3-part strategy to raise awareness of how to reduce malnutrition o Target political leaders at all levels of government o Get MPs attention on malnutrition through issue that interests them Lack of awareness about the right kind of nutrition funding to reduce malnutrition Strong investment in food security and nutrition (nutrition- sensitive programs) Pushing to increase investment for nutrition-specific interventions is resisted

Kenyas Citizens Health Manifesto (2017) Engaged during 2017 national elections Focused on Presidential candidates and aspiring governors Results: o 17 governors signed on o Counties prioritized nutrition Invest domestic resources in nutrition Asks: 15% increase of budget for nutrition specific interventions

Engage Parliamentarians (2018 2019) Kenya s GFF loan (Global Financing Facility for Every Woman, Every Child) Work through Parliamentary Health Committee Commit to WHA targets Results: o Statements made on the floor of Parliament Asks: Invest more in nutrition 10% increase in budget allocation for nutrition specific interventions

  5. National-Level Coordination (2019 2020) Ask: Create an office or position at highest level for multi-sectoral coordination of nutrition intervention Budget analysis and Kenya Nutrition Action Plan 2018-2022 Led to financial ask: USD 10 million per year for 4 years

  6. The Breastfeeding Mothers Bill (National Assembly Bill NO.74 of 2019) 11th November 2019 Leadership in Parliament to Change Nutrition Policy
