Be Unshakable! Isaiah 8; Luke 1:26-38; Mt. 1:18-25
A person may plan his path, but Adonai directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9 CJB
Devise a plan, it will fail. Make a prediction, it will not happen unless the Lord God has planned it.
Fear God, Not Conspiring Powers
For this is what the Lord said to me with great power, to keep me from going the way of this people: Do not call everything an alliance these people say is an alliance. Do not fear what they fear; do not be terrified. You are to regard only the Lord of Hosts as holy. Only He should be feared; only He should be held in awe. Isaiah 8:11 13 HCSB
For He will conceal me in His shelter on the day of trouble, He will hide me in the folds of His tent, He will set me high on a rock. Then my head will be lifted up above my surrounding foes, and I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, sing praises to Adonai. Psalm 27:5 6 CJB
Adonai is my Rock, my fortress and deliverer, my God, my Rock, in whom I find shelter, my shield, the power that saves me, my stronghold. I call on Adonai, who is worthy of praise; and I am saved from my enemies. Psalm 18:3 4 CJB
You who live in the shelter of Elyon, who spend your nights in the shadow of Shaddai, who say to Adonai, My refuge! My fortress! My God, in whom I trust! He will rescue you from the trap of the hunter and from the plague of calamities; He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; His truth is a shield and protection. You will not fear the terrors of night or the arrow that flies by day, or the plague that roams in the dark, or the scourge that wreaks havoc at noon. Psalm 91 CJB
He will be a sanctuary; but for the two houses of Israel, He will be a stone to stumble over and a rock to trip over, and a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. Many will stumble over these; they will fall and be broken; they will be snared and captured. Isaiah 8:14 15 HCSB
For who will hurt you if you become zealots for what is good? But even if you do suffer for being righteous, you are blessed! Moreover, don t fear what they fear or be disturbed, but treat the Messiah as holy, as Lord in your hearts; while remaining always ready to give a reasoned answer to anyone who asks you to explain the hope you have in you yet with humility and fear, keeping your conscience clear, so that when you are spoken against, those who abuse the good behavior flowing from your union with the Messiah may be put to shame. 1 Peter 3:13 16 CJB
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne, and His robe filled the temple. Seraphim were standing above Him; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts; His glory fills the whole earth. The foundations of the doorways shook at the sound of their voices, and the temple was filled with smoke. Isaiah 6:1 4 HCSB
Why is this event so significant? 1) Reminds us of Christ being born under the original Christmas Star 2) Reminds us of Jesus second coming 3) We can point others to Jesus by telling the account of His birth and why He was born so many thousands of years ago 4) The Christmas Star is a sign of hope, God has not forgotten about His people.
There will appear signs in the sun, moon and stars; and on earth, nations will be in anxiety and bewilderment at the sound and surge of the sea, as people faint with fear at the prospect of what is overtaking the world; for the powers in heaven will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with tremendous power and glory. When these things start to happen, stand up and hold your heads high; because you are about to be liberated! Luke 21:25 28 CJB
For if God has in fact willed that you should suffer, it is better that you suffer for doing what is good than for doing what is evil. 1 Peter 3:17 CJB
Mary and Joseph - The Unshakable Couple (Luke 1:26-38; Mt.1:18-25)
How is it that Mary and Joseph could carry out the pregnancy of Christ?
What made Mary and Joseph so Unshakable to believe God?
I am the Lords slave, said Mary. May it be done to me according to your word. Then the angel left her. Luke 1:38 HCSB
Indeed you are blessed, because you have trusted that the promise Adonai has made to you will be fulfilled. Luke 1:45 CJB
Peace on earth to the people whom God favors.
Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people He favors! Luke 2:14 HCSB
Gods peace rests on those who believe in Him.
And Mary said: My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior, because He has looked with favor on the humble condition of His slave. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed, because the Mighty One has done great things for me, and His name is holy. His mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear Him. He has done a mighty deed with His arm; Luke 1:46 55 HCSB
He has scattered the proud because of the thoughts of their hearts; He has toppled the mighty from their thrones and exalted the lowly. He has satisfied the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty. He has helped His servant Israel, mindful of His mercy, just as He spoke to our ancestors, to Abraham and his descendants forever. Luke 1:46 55 HCSB
Mohar - the Bride price -The grooms family paid the bride price. Jesus purchased believers with His blood, shed on the cross for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 20:28; 1 Corinthians 6:19 20; 11:25).
The Bridechamber - The groom spent a year getting his house ready. The father told him when he was done and could fetch his bride. The bride would join the grooms father s household. Jesus is currently preparing a place for us (John 14:3), and will return for us at a future time no one knows (Matthew 24:36)
The Retrieval - The bride would not be aware of when the groom would come to fetch her and bring her home, so she was to be ready for his return at anytime, even in the middle of the night (Matthew 25:1- 13). The groom would return with a trumpet call and a crowd. Jesus will return for His bride with a trumpet call and a shout (1 Thessalonians 4:16 17).
The Ceremony - the Bride would take part in a ritual cleansing; to present herself without blemish before the bridegroom at the marriage ceremony. Jesus gave himself as our cleansing from sin to present us to His Father without blemish.
The Celebration - The celebration was paid for and provided by the bridegrooms family. The dead in Christ and those alive in Him will be taken to heaven, where they will be joined forever with the Lord (Revelation 19:7) and take part in the marriage feast of the Lamb (verse 9).
Bind up the testimony. Seal up the instruction among my disciples. I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob. I will wait for Him. Isaiah 8:16 17 HCSB
Trust in the Hope that was provided, and trust in the Hope to come. He will not disappoint. Be Unshakable!
