This peer-led, person-directed, and strengths-based financial empowerment training aims to assist individuals facing mental health and/or addiction challenges in creating personalized plans to achieve their financial goals. Participants learn about person-directed planning, identify their strengths and capacities, set financial dreams and goals, and create action plans. The approach focuses on individual strengths and long-term goals, fostering a supportive environment for financial growth and empowerment.

Create your own unique person-centered plan to achieve your financial goals, which will include: a. Your life now b. What works and what doesn t when it comes to your finances c. Your strengths, gifts and capacities d. Your financial dreams and goals e. Your life one year from now f.   5. Upon conclusion of Workshop 2, participants will: 1. Have a basic understanding of person-centered planning and why it can be useful 2. Create their own Person-Directed Plan (for their Financial Dream/Goal) 3. Create an action plan for achieving their financial goals 5 MENTAL HEALTH & ADDICTION ASSOCIATION OF OREGON

  6. What is person-directed planning? A tool for making life changes and achieving life goals. Focuses on your strengths and helps you to identify your long- term goals and the short-term steps you can take to get there. The rules: Be gentle with yourself. Dream big without barriers! Imagine your life in 1 year or 10 and identify the steps needed to move toward these dreams. Be open to the ideas of those around you. 6 MENTAL HEALTH & ADDICTION ASSOCIATION OF OREGON

  7. In pairs or small groups, complete the financial PDP worksheets in your Student Guidebook: 1. Life now 2. What works/What doesn t 3. Strengths, gifts, capacities 4. Financial Dream/Goal 5. Life one year from now 6. Action Plan 7 MENTAL HEALTH & ADDICTION ASSOCIATION OF OREGON

  8. Life NOW I live on SSI. I live in a group home. I have a checking account with $16.00 in it. I don t have any savings. I don t have a job. My case manager makes most of my financial decisions. I get nervous when I think about money. 8 MENTAL HEALTH & ADDICTION ASSOCIATION OF OREGON

  9. What Works What Doesn t Work I am careful with my money. I don t lend friends any money. I don t borrow money from friends. I am on time with making my loan payments every month. When I am manic, sometimes I buy things I can t afford. I don t have anything in savings. I don t have enough money to really do what I want to do. 9 MENTAL HEALTH & ADDICTION ASSOCIATION OF OREGON

  10. Strengths, Gifts, & Capacities I have a great memory. I am good with numbers. I have a great sense of humor. I keep organized records. I am always on time for appointments.   11. My Financial Dream/Goal I have a full-time job in an office. I own a nice house in a good neighborhood. I have my own dog. I have a good car. I plan trips to Hawaii and The Bahamas. I have a credit card in my own name. I have at least $5000.00 in savings. I have a good retirement plan. I go out to eat at a nice restaurant at least twice a month. Continue your money saving idea from last week (if it was helpful). Keep track of which ideas are going well and which are not. c.
