  1. Hebrews 12:7-17 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11 STRIVE FOR HOLINESS

  2. I. STRIVE FOR HOLINESS BY SUBJECTING YOURSELF TO THE FATHER S DISCIPLINE (VERSES 7-10) A. because His discipline affirms we are His children (7-8) 7It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.

Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.

But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:14 train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:7-8

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works. Ephesians 2:8-9 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all Romans 12:18 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9 A.

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 A.

  15. III. STRIVE FOR HOLINESS BY SEEKING GODS GRACE TOGETHER (VERSES 14-17) See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God (15a-17) how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? Hebrews 2:3 15See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled; For the peaceful fruit of righteousness (verse 11)to flourish, we must see to it that God s grace is not choked by our neglect of tending to a holy life. B.

  16. III. STRIVE FOR HOLINESS BY SEEKING GODS GRACE TOGETHER (VERSES 14-17) See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God (15a-17) how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? Hebrews 2:3 16that no one is sexually immoral or unholy like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal. 17For you know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent, though he sought it with tears. let us press on to maturity And this we will do, if God permits. Hebrews 6:1 & 3 B.
