  1. Futures Institute Student Leadership Update March 2025

  2. Katharine House School Partner Pilot Scheme As part of their new schools programme Katharine House Hospice invited us, as a long-standing and committed hospice supporter to become a Katharine House School Partner. This year, we are the pilot partner to help them trial and develop the programme for this brand-new initiative. Our partnership will last the whole year and is culminating in an event at the end of Summer. So far we have taken part in two meetings with KHH to discuss the colour run at the end of the year, ideas for fundraising and marketing suggestions. We have already completed one fundraiser as part of the scheme which raised over 160. We organised for Katharine House Hospice to come into school and deliver an assembly to the whole school about the partnership and to launch the colour run to all students which took place just after Christmas. Going forward Student council reps are going to explore other fundraising options for the rest of the school year. Katharine House have also been invited in for our inaugural careers fair in June.

  3. Student Voice - Nov 24 Ahead of our next Student Voice survey, we decided to conduct some informal student voice to see what students opinions were on our two focus areas. A summary of the results are: Concerns raised about Sparx maths homework. Students saying that there is too much of it, that it takes a very long to complete and that is it is sometimes more difficult than what is covered in lessons which is impacting how much they enjoy lessons. Student preference for paper based homework. Action: Student Leadership to draw up a full review of data and share with Mrs Ingham to share with Miss Beecroft (head of maths) A lot of students have raised that having more fun or interactive lessons would help them to enjoy lessons more. Action: Student Leadership to speak with mentor groups to get an idea of what type of activities they would like to to see more of. More group work was raised as a possibility. Student Leadership to bring feedback to next meeting with Mrs Cawley to then share with Mrs Ingham More games out at lunchtime in the foyer. More opportunities for younger years to play out on court. Football goals out on courts. Action: Student Leadership team to look at fundraising opportunities to raise money to buy more games/ lego sets/ football goals

  4. Concerns raised about Sparx maths homework. Students saying that there is too much of it, that it takes a very long to complete and that is it is sometimes more difficult than what is covered in lessons which is impacting how much they enjoy lessons. Student preference for paper based homework. Student Council had a meeting with Miss Beecroft (Feb 25) and we have agreed to half the amount of maths homework and realign the math scheme to sparks so that the work set matches what is taught in lessons. We shared this news to students through assemblies. More games out at lunchtime in the foyer. More opportunities for younger years to play out on court. Football goals out on courts. Following a successful STEM trip, year 7 won an Amazon voucher which after conducting some student voice, we have spent on games for the foyer. Lots of different games including Uno, Top Trumps, Frustration and Monopoly Deal have been ordered for us to use. Going forward Student council reps to monitor usage to ensure they remain in a good condition
