RISC Highlights Overall: Students feel Admissions & Records, and Financial Aid are effective in providing services Students feel welcomed at the colleges College provides a safe learning environment for students Tuition and fees are affordable Yuba College: 91% of students are somewhat or very likely to recommend YC 95% of students believe their education is worth what they paid 57% indicated choosing YC to prepare for a four-year degree Woodland Community College: 95% of students are somewhat or very likely to recommend WCC 97% of students believe their education is worth what they paid 61% indicated choosing WCC to prepare for a four-year degree 3
RISC Challenges Overall: Challenges associated with transition to online learning Hardships with needing to learn material on their own Difficulty keeping up because of no regular class times Lack of interaction with other students Difficulty registering for courses, courses not offered at the times needed, or the needed courses were full Academic advising wait to meet with a counselor Yuba College: Difficulty balancing demands of family and college Woodland Community College: Work/personal issues due to hardships with balancing demands Financial barriers and work not leaving enough time to study 4
Graduation Survey Highlights Overall: Students identify student email, and college website as the best ways to communicate with them. Improvement in the proportion of students that say the College App is an excellent or very good way to communicate. Yuba College: Students report highest levels of satisfaction with EOP&S, College Success Center, Financial Aid Office, WLDC, and the library and computer labs. Text Analysis: Support systems were identified as critical to students completing their degree or certificate during disruption caused by COVID-19. Tutoring continues to be a major identified contributor to student success. Woodland Community College: Students report highest levels of satisfaction Counseling, Financial Aid Library, and Computer Labs. 61% stated they developed a sensitivity to diverse cultures and various populations as a result of their education at WCC, up from 40% in 2017. Text Analysis: Faculty and staff recognized as having an impact in student success.5
Graduation Survey Challenges Yuba College: Health services, Career & Transfer Center, Dusty s Pantry, and the Hard Math Caf are the least utilized services on campus. Text Analysis: Challenges associated with the pandemic and transition to online learning with inadequate support was identified as the principal barrier for students. Text Analysis: Finances, the need to work part-time or full-time, and balance life/family obligations while attending college is a substantial barrier for students. Text Analysis: Students identify math as a challenge. Woodland Community College: Food pantry, Veteran Services and MESA are the least utilized services on campus. Text Analysis: Financial challenges faced by student make it necessary to work and hinders. academic success. Text Analysis: Students who were returning to college after taking a break to finish degree had to complete online and found this transition challenging. Text Analysis: Math and Science classes are challenging. 6
Actions and Activities Next Steps: Share results with LEAD, ASYC, Student Services, and Administrative Team SEM: Continue work to assess and build comprehensive class schedules that allow students to complete programs GP: Develop and publish comprehensive program maps so students know what courses are required for their program of study Implement Caring Campus strategies to help strengthen the sense of community and support for students Expand Campus Life activities to improve student engagement Continue to improve communication with students via YC App and Canvas notifications for important deadlines and announcements Support the Distance Education Committees work to assess online classes for quality and compliance with distance education standards and effectiveness
