Student Wellbeing Services Our service is split into 3 areas: Mental Wellbeing Service: We support with diagnosed mental health conditions, emotional support and academic issues that can be impacted by your mental wellbeing. This includes a counselling service. Student Support Service. We support with practical issues such as finance, accommodation, budgeting, homesickness, academic issues and are the first point of call. Student Disability Service: We support with diagnosed disabilities and academic issues that can be impacted by your disability. This includes dyslexia screening.
Student Wellbeing Services The Disability Team and Mental Wellbeing team help students to study independently and can advise on any reasonable adjustments that are needed to reduce any barriers to learning. We can support students who have a variety of needs including: Depression Dissociative Identity disorder Anxiety Bipolar disorder Personality disorders Autism spectrum conditions dyslexia, dyspraxia and other specific learning difficulties mobility impairments sensory impairments unseen disabilities such as epilepsy, HIV, AIDS and chronic fatigue long-term health conditions.
The Student Wellbeing Service offers a confidential service via email, phone, video conferencing and in- person How we can support you Some of the things we can help you with: Mental health support and short term counselling Dyslexia screenings and applying for diagnostic assessments Applying for Disabled Students Allowances Developing a Learning Support Plan (LSP) or a Placement Learning Plan (PLSP)to capture your needs in relation to your studies Exam adjustments and special arrangements Access to productivity tools and accessibility software Specialist equipment/adapted accommodation Accessibility and travel guidance. The language we use at university can be different to what you have known before. The language we use You may be familiar with the terms SEN (Special Educational Needs). At University this is referred to as a disability or learning difference. If you have a disability or mental health condition you can apply for Disabled Student Allowances (DSA). You may have received an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP). At Christchurch we assess your needs and you may receive a Learning Support Plan or a Placement Learning Support Plan. At your school or college you may have an Additional Support Team. At Christchurch these are called the Disability Team and the Mental Wellbeing Team
Disabled Students Allowance If you are a disabled student you need to apply for support called Disabled Student Allowances or DSAs. It is best to apply early for this support as the process can take up to 4 months. This process can seem a bit daunting at first so if you do have any difficulties with this, please contact us and we can support you through the process. You can apply for DSAs online via https://www.gov.uk/disabled-students-allowance- dsa/how-to-claim You will need to provide evidence that you have a disability.
