OBJECTIVE The objective of the organization was to lobby and advocate for the ratification of Convention 190, 189 Popularization of KDWAL Training and education on workers rights and obligations
Activities Conducting Study circles total of six Attending May Day Celebration 1stMay, 2023 Organizing Domestic Workers Day 16thJune,2023 Meeting potential candidates for parliament, policy makers, civil society organizations members and leadership Going for radio programs and interviews Workshops: 25 participant for 3 workshops Translation and reproduction of Convention 189 brochures into local language Recruitment strategies
Internet connectivity Weather Conditions Availability of members on the agreed dates leading to postponements Challenges Geographical location of other members to reach affecting their participation fully in the sessions More women seen to participate in the sessions
Achievements Translation of the Convention 189 from English to Sesotho Ratification of Convention 190 and its implementation Popularization of KDWAL Participated in the drafting of the Migrant Workers Guidelines awaiting validation by the stakeholder Knowledgeable members about the provisions C189 Attending May Day Celebration 1stMay, 2023 Organizing Domestic Workers Day 16th June,2023
Way forward Looking forward to the accessing the guidelines once validated and disseminate to the members and public Continuous education and engaging the members in advocacy strategies and skills programs Education on workers and domestic workers rights Development of Social Protection materials and Occupational Health and Safety for Migrant workers Continuous engagement with the policy makers Follow up with the Minister of Public Services and Labor on the proposed meeting to discuss the way forward to ratify C189 To participate effectively in the task team preparing for the Summit on the Ex-miners Benefits while working in South Africa
