This study conducted at Prisma Health University of South Carolina Orthopedic Center in Columbia, SC, aimed to determine the average quantity and type of post-operative opioids consumed after hallux valgus correction surgery. 91.38% of patients consumed opioid medication post-operatively, with prescribed medications like Hydrocodone and Oxycodone. The average number of opioid pills consumed was found to be 20 at 2 weeks post-operatively and 23 at 12 weeks post-operatively. Factors such as BMI were identified as statistically significant variables affecting opioid consumption. Patients consumed on average 22-24 narcotic pain pills after surgery, and if prescribed 24 pills, there was a 95% chance no additional pain medication would be needed.
