Background of the Research Cirebon is a border area between Sundaand Java. In the beginning, Cirebon has two dominant languages, namely Javanese and Sundanese(Setyawan, 2011) In addition, the people from Cirebon have used Javanese of Sundanesedialect and Cirebon Javanese before the existence of the Cirebon Language (AstrianidanPraja, 2019)
Based on Local Regulation of West Java number 5 in 2003 on official West Java wesbsite, Cirebon has own language. It is Cirebonese.
Research Questions Who use tah and jeh speech in communication? 1 What do tah and jeh speech mean in communication? 2
Purpose of the Research Because of the varieties of languages in Cirebon, it can impact using the local language in Cirebon. Based on this phenomenon, the writer is interested to do the research about using Cirebonese. The writer hopes this research can preserve local language, Cirebonese.
Theoretical Framework According to Saifullah (2018), semantic is a branch of linguistic that studies meaning related in pragmatic study in human language. Human language will be considered important if it contains meaning in it. Pragmatic is the study about language use and meaning analysis based on the speaker meaning (Nuramila, 2020).
Research Method Descriptive Qualitative Primary and secondary data The students and the teachers in SMPN 2 Mundu Cirebon
Data Analysis Speech Meaning Tah dan Jeh Speech Event Data Interpretation 1 Student A : Arep tuku apa ira? Student B : Mbuh, bingung. Student A : Basreng bae tah? Student B : Yowes lah. Tah means afirmation and stressing of the statement Tah is used as directive speech act At the cooperation At the breaktim e Based on the conversation, student B was still confused when student A asked him to buy something so student A decided to buy basreng together directly.
2 Teacher : Sudah selesai nak? Ayo dikumpu lkan lks nya ! Student A : Durung kelar jeh bu. Jeh means affirmation of the response Jeh is used in asertive speech act In the classroom In the learning process Based on the conversatio n, student A answered dir ectly that she hasn t yet fi nished the task. 3 Student A : Mendi Ki? Kantin tah? Student B : Kopsis bae yu lah. Tah means afirmati on and stressing of the statement Tah is used as directive speech act In the classroom In the end of the lesson Based on the conversation, student A asked student B directly to buy food in the canteen.
Based on the analysis data above, using tah and jeh can be used by Cirebonese societies and people from other regions who live in Cirebon for long time. They often use tah and jeh because they follow the neighbor and people from their environment.
Conclusion Basedon the theresearch on 30thand 31 of August 2022, tahand jehare active to be used by the teachers and students at SMPN 2 MunduCirebon in communication. Although using the languages are different, the teachers an d the students often use tahand jehin communication. Tahd anjehhave meaning as affirmation and stressing of the stat ement. Tahdanjehare not only used by Cirebon society but the other regions use tahand jehin communication.
