  2. WHAT STUDENTS ARE WE LOOKING FOR? They enjoy learning about environments, landscapes and peoples: their societies, economies and cultures They are passionate to learn more about pressing environmental, social, cultural and economic issues They are keen to learn and develop a wide range of skills They are seeking a broad-based academic degree, offering above average graduate employability They have a sense of wonder, curiosity and concern.

  3. WHAT DO WE OFFER TO STUDENTS? Study in one of the World s leading departments Research-led teaching Small group teaching (supervisions/tutorials) to complement lectures Study in both departmental and college environments Libraries (access to books, academic journals and e-books) Museums and Botanic Gardens Extra-curricular lectures, talks, seminar series Student-led societies Wealth of resources with academic and pastoral support through the college system

  4. OUR APROACH TO GEOGRAPHY All three year undergraduate degrees awarded by Cambridge/Oxford are Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees. We do not make them choose between human and physical geography students can specialise as they progress The courses are broad enough to include those whose primary interests are in natural sciences, social sciences, humanities; or all three. They do not need to have studied Geography at school.

  5. TEACHING AND LEARNING World-class teaching environment: Lectures Supervisions/Tutorials (small group teaching) Practical classes / fieldwork Dissertation (independent research project)

  6. APPLICATIONS Earlier UCAS deadline of Oxford and Cambridge 15th October Admissions test (Oxford) Interviews December Offers - January

  8. COLLEGES In terms of academic life, it doesn t matter which college they choose they will have support at college Check the college admits geographers Size of college and Geography cohort Location/Setting Women only/mature students (over the age of 21) (Cambridge only)

GEOGRAPHY INTERVIEWS Usually 20-25 minutes (usually 2 interviews, each with two interviewers) Like a mini-supervision/tutorial where we discuss a series of key themes in geography May involve a piece of reading, either sent in advance or set on the day Exploring how they think through and construct an argument Assessing their interest in the subject Videos of the interview process are on our websites

  10. HOW TO SUPPORT POTENTIAL APPLICANTS? Signposting resources our websites and beyond Myth busting Asking for a school tour, online session or other engagement There is not an Oxbridge type Reflecting on whether they apply to Oxford or Cambridge But, ultimately it is their application Supporting candidates whatever the outcome
