  1. Software Andrea Bressan (University and INFN Trieste, Italy) Wouter Deconinck (University of Manitoba, USA) Markus Diefenthaler (Jlab, USA) Mihai Dima (Polytechnical Univ. Bucharest, Romania) Subsystem Interest Session, EIC@IP6 Meeting, 03/12/2021 03/13/2021 1

  2. Subsystem Interest SOFTWARE Please indicate the name of the contact person: Temporarily (while considering the EIC@IP6 option and the potential INFN contribution): Andrea Bressan, University and INFN Trieste Italy, andrea.bressan@cern.ch Please indicate all institutions collectively involved in this subsystem interest: Most of INFN groups will participate to the software/simulation activity. Are you interested in joining a new consortia towards a new EIC experiment at IP6: We are considering the EIC@IP6 option and internally discussing it. Relevant aspects are physics reach and technology prospects. Are you interested in actively participating in the detector proposal preparation for a new EIC experiment at IP6: We plan to actively contributing if EIC@IP6 will be our selected option Please indicate the items of interest for potential equipment cooperation: o Workflows, particularly to have the EIC software on federated resources, in the short term, and in the integration of HPCs including accelerated hardware as a longer term; o Monte Carlo Event Generators, in the integration of TMD effects in modern, multi-purpose MCEG; o Detector Simulations, both including the C++ description of sub-detectors in the specific interest of INFN and the full simulation of their response for performance optimization. o Reconstruction tools, with main interest, to the sub-detectors with planned INFN contribution in connection with the streaming read-out approach; o Data Model. Subsystem Interest Session, EIC@IP6 Meeting, 03/12/2021 03/13/2021 2

  3. Subsystem Interest Software Opportunities for engagement of other groups / institutions or areas where help is needed: o We would provide our contribution within the framework of the EIC Software Consortium, in collaboration with the other institutions therein Any additional information you think may be useful for the community to know about your subsystem interest for a new EIC experiment at IP6 (Prior experience, R&D programs, institutional infra-structure, in-kind contributions etc.): o Members of the INFN groups involved in the EIC have or had coordination responsibilities in the Software and Computing Groups as well as in data analysis of COMPASS, ALICE and experiments at JLab. More specifically, there is wide expertise Expression of interest of the INFN community for the Electron Ion Collider on the software and analysis side, in particular based on the experience in development of tracking, vertexing and PID reconstruction software, as well as physics analysis software. In these groups, there are also active software developers and project managers of Git and CVMFS repositories, VOMS and data (real and MC) production as well as experts in computing resource management. o INFN has been deeply involved in the creation of the WLCG and host since 2003 a Tier-1 at CNAF as well as many Tier-2 both at CNAF and at other INFN computing centers. INFN is also strongly supporting the non-LHC experiments . Improved computational resources are becoming available CNAF is going to migrate in a novel data center with increased power capacity and INFN is member in an European Consortium for the pre-exascale computer Leonardo, to be hosted in CINECA, Bologna. o INFN-CNAF in Bologna, ReCaS data centers in Bari and Catania, WLCG Tier-2 sites and additional local farms in Bari, Catania, Padova, Roma, Torino and Trieste Subsystem Interest Session, EIC@IP6 Meeting, 03/12/2021 03/13/2021 3

  5. Subsystem Interest EIC Canada Collaboration Opportunities for engagement of other groups / institutions or areas where help is needed: Currently waiting for funding decision to allow M.Sc. student ramp-up to ~5 starting in September 2021. Anticipated research student increase will allow increased involvement in each of the following areas: interference structure functions F1 Z and F3 Z exclusive charged pion and kaon electroproduction and form factors Compton polarimetry: electron detector development electron and hadron calorimetry for light and heavy quark spectroscopy sustainable research software development Any additional information you think may be useful for the community to know about your subsystem interest for a new EIC experiment at IP6 (Prior experience, R&D programs, institutional infra-structure, in-kind contributions etc.): EIC Canada Collaboration is actively expanding its membership and anticipates growth to ~10 PIs by the start of EIC operations TRIUMF will support the community organized by EIC Canada on science technology & physics, as well as accelerator physics & technology Subsystem Interest Session, EIC@IP6 Meeting, 03/12/2021 03/13/2021 5
