El Paso County Coroners Office 2021 Annual Report Suicides decreases slightly for the third year with 176 recorded in 2021 Youth suicides decreased from fifteen in 2020 to four in 2021 Nearly a third of the suicides had a known active or prior military duty, a 10 percent increase from 2020 The average age at death was 44, and 81 percent of completed suicides were male Of the 176 deaths by suicide, 114 (65%) involved firearms which is much higher than the national percentage (around 50%)

  6. Suicide Prevention is Everyones Business The financial toll of suicide on society is also costly. In 2019, suicide and nonfatal self-harm cost the nation nearly $490 billion in medical costs, work loss costs, value of statistical life, and quality of life costs. (CDC)

Pledge today to implement the Suicide Prevention Toolkit Be aware of mental health and commitment to suicide awareness is everyone s business Develop and share policy or statement from leadership that supports culture of wellness and suicide prevention Include in the organizational onboarding policy and communication to existing employees, a list of suicide prevention trainings available to community and can be brought to your organization Organize annual trainings for employees and pay employees for participating in suicide prevention trainings
