Support for supplementary schools forms part of the responsibility of Learning Improvement. As a service, we offer a whole range of support to the sector. 17 supplementary schools currently running 13 are in person 4 are virtual About 1200 - 1500 pupils attend the schools from 2 6 hours per week during term time out of school hours. Support provided by LCC: Grants - 10K per year A wide range of relevant training courses and partnership support A whole range of information, advice and guidance as well as networking meetings Impact for the sector: Improved quality of teaching and resources in supplementary schools Improved efficiency of the sector Increased achievement and cohesion of pupils from ethnic minorities Support Support and and Impact Impact
Aims: To engage pupils in learning, particularly disadvantaged pupils To improve attainment in the core curriculum with a focus on reading this year To increase achievement and cohesion of pupils in supplementary schools Grants for Grants for Supplementary Supplementary Schools Schools Outcomes: Four supplementary schools secured the grants this year to support 268 children who are the lowest 20% of learners with reading through English and language classes, homework support and reading groups in supplementary schools.

Aims: To promote, support and facilitate partnerships among supplementary, mainstream schools and other relevant agencies To share information and resources To improve the effectiveness of support for pupils Types of links: Within the sector Eg: Baltica School & Polish School Between Supplementary & mainstream schools Eg: Hamara Supplementary School & local primary schools Between Supplementary schools and other agencies Eg: Supplementary schools and Voluntary Action Leeds Partnerships Partnerships
Aims: To provide opportunities for supplementary schools to work closely To provide opportunities for supplementary schools to share information, good experience and best practice To improve the effectiveness of communications among supplementary schools Supplementary Supplementary School Network School Network Meetings Meetings Outcomes: Supplementary schools gain an understanding of what others do and support each other through the network. The network group co-hosted events for pupils from supplementary schools such as online reading event. Three schools showcased their reading projects recently.
