Subject: A Level Maths & Further Mathematics How can parents best support student through A level Maths & Further Maths o Each week students need to be completing about 8/10 hours of work outside of the classroom, please prompt students to ensure they are using this time effectively on task that include: Completing all homework tasks set (These will include, self teach videos and worksheets) Finishing off exercise in class to consolidate work o Prompt students to seek help outside of the classroom as and when they need it, this can be done by: Emailing teachers with pictures of the question they are stuck on and there working so far Visit the maths office in their free periods or lunch Visit the drop in support session on a Wednesday lunch time
Subject: A Level Further Mathematics Terms What students will cover in their second year in this subject How you can best support them Subject Enrichment Further pure: Series (Method of differences & Maclaurins), Methods of calculus (Improper integration, Mean of a function, Differentiation of inverse trig functions, Integration to form inverse trig functions and integration of partial fractions) & Volume of revolutions. Mechanics: Vectors, Forces, Constant Acceleration, RUVAT, Functions in Mechanics, Vector Calculus Prompt students to continue to work through the exercises started within class Each week students will receive a Self teach video to work through, these will then be continued within class, please prompt to ensure these are completed before they are required in class Prompt students to complete all written homework tasks UK Maths challenge Autumn term First half term (ends 13th Oct) Further Pure: Polar Coordinates, Hyperbolic Functions & Differential equations. Mechanics: Projectiles, Forces, Moments Continue to prompt students to complete exercise started in class and complete all homework's, including self teach lessons. Ensure students are completing past paper question in preparation for their first mock examination. All past papers can be found on Canvas. The Maths mock will contain both Pure & Statistics and the Further mock will contain Further Pure core topics from year 1 and 2. UK Team challenge AMSP Problem solving day. Autumn term Second half term (ends 21st December)
Subject: A Level Further Mathematics Terms What students will cover in their second year in this subject How you can best support them Subject Enrichment Further Statistics: Poisson distribution, Discrete random variables, Geometric distribution, negative binomial distribution, Hypothesis testing, Central limit theorem 7 quality of tests. Further Core: Modelling with differential equations Mechanics: Moments Further Decision: Algorithms, Graphs & Networks, Algorithms on Graphs, Route Inspection, Travelling Salesperson Continue to prompt students to complete exercise started in class and complete all homework's, including self teach lessons. Spring term First half term (ends 9th Feb) Further Pure: Complex numbers Further Statistics: Chi- squared distributions Further Decision: Linear Programming, Simplex Algorithm, Critical Path Analysis Continue to prompt students to complete exercise started in class and complete all homework's, including self teach lessons. Ensure students are completing past paper question in preparation for their second mock examination. All past papers can be found on Canvas. The Maths mock will contain both Pure & Mechanics and the Further mock will contains Further Statistics , Decision and Pure Core. Before and after college revision sessions: Each week we look at a different topic area. Students can attend as many sessions as they like during the week.
