The University of the South Pacific School of Economics One of largest faculties in Business and Economics Faculty of Arts, Law and Education Staff are renowned for good learning & teaching practices and outstanding research Facility of Science, Technology and Environment Research focus: Poverty; Labour Market; Trade and Finance; Environment; Energy Policy; Pacific Business Environment; Monetary Policy; Economic Growth; Migration; Foreign Direct Investment; Economics of Governance; and Population Urbanisation and Health Care. Pacific Islands Centre for Public Administration We also contribute through national economy updates; research and consultancy; policy dialogues and workshops. We have high powered staff-student interactive learning environment and offer F2F, blended & DFL courses. We will be going online from 2015. Our graduates are found all around the Pacific (various Government Ministries, Reserve Banks, Commercial and Development Banks, regional and international organizations (UN, SPC, PIFS, SPREP, USP and others) and abroad
Our Programs Undergraduate Diploma & Certificates programs (slowly being faced away) BCOM in OS (with many other disciplines, including Economics, Demography & Population studies ..) Produce about 200-250 graduates in Economics every year, 10% in OS We offer F2F courses and about 95% of them are through OL as well. OS enrolls about 150 new students each year since 2015. (started 2007 with 7) Postgraduate We have established graduate program o PG Dip (4 Economic 400 level courses), PGDip-OS under development o Mcom (PG Dip + 4 of 400 level electives) o Mcom (PG Dip + 2 of 400 level electives + minor thesis) o Mcom (PG Dip +1 Major thesis) o PhD (Economics)

OS program UG Courses PG Structure* Advanced national accounts analysis Statistical practice and administration Advanced demographical analysis Applied econometrics Statistical frameworks Population/demography National accounts Applied statistics Census and surveys analysis GIS and ICT in Official Stats Applied topics (labor, urbanization, environment)
Who can enroll? Anyone with an undergraduate GPA of 3.5 in Economics or above, but 3.0 is also considered Qualifications from other institutions must first be vetted (apply to the PG office) Closing date for application is normally 30 Nov, see website http://www.fbe.usp.ac.fj/ Matured students (basic qualifications but extensive work experience) could also be enrolled subject to HOS s decision.
Cohort/Intensive Teaching More structured group-focused study USP commits to complete study programs in cohorts in the region with small numbers Course offerings are more certain and offered at regional centers Intensive teaching completes in 4 weeks (220/350 learning/teaching hrs) Flexible timing (normally evening classes) Could do up to 4 courses per year done with MCom in two years.
How we can help Conduct training needs analysis at the NSOs and others (we can lead this) Compile qualifications for assessment/vetting (include professional CV and details of other formal training. We will approve cross-credits etc; and you good to go. See USP webpage fro details of UG applications
