Equity and Inclusive Leadership: Supporting Student Who Identify as LGBTQ Joint association, ministry funded project that began in Fall 2015 Goals include : Build equity leadership capacity for principals and vice- principals to support students who identify as LGBTQ within the context of safe and accepting Catholic schools Develop differentiated resources which align with Catholic education partners such as ICE (Institute for Catholic Education) and OPECO (Office provincial de l ducation de la foi catholique en Ontario)

  3. This multi-phase project includes: Phase 1: Explore and Scan Available Resources Phase 2: Searchable Resource Database Phase 3: Focus Group Phase 4: Specialized Face-to-Face Professional Learning Phase 5: Virtual Learning Resources

  4. Phase 1: Explore and Scan Available Resources To understand what is out there and inform planning for focus group Group met through the Fall and Winter of 2015 The CPCO team reviewed and annotated more than 43 documents and the data formed the foundation of the Searchable Resource Database .

  5. Phase 2: Searchable Resource Database Includes annotated resources for principals and vice-principals - by principals and vice-principals. The database has been beta tested and is ready to be shared with associates by the end of January. Housed behind firewall for both CPCO and OESC within single login.

  6. Phase 3: Focus Group Took place on January 21, 2016 55 participants; 18 representing Catholic stakeholders. Representation from Catholic partners included: 8 CPCO Practising Associates ACBO and ICE: Mike Pautler OCOSTA: Nick Milanetti; Kathy Burtnik (regrets) OCSOA: Deb Crawford OAPCE: Brian Evoy OESC: Patricia Amos Student Trustee: Nicholas Bottger OECTA: Shannon Hogan OCBOA: Kevin Sun Ministry of Education

Phase 3: Focus Group Identified current practices, concerns, needs and gaps in existing supports for Catholic principals and vice-principals Data informed next steps in the gap analysis and creation of resources. Participant input informed design and content of the face-to-face learning symposium held in May, 2016.

Phase 4: Specialized Professional Learning Took place May 18-19, 2016 Invitations sent to all 72 school boards in the province 25 boards participated: 13 Catholic (10 from CPCO and 3 from ADFO) Pre-session for Catholic board teams to ground learning in our faith hosted by Michael Pautler from ICE and Pere Jean Vezina (formerly of OPECO) Michael Way Skinner from York CDSB facilitated four-hour interactive session entitled Respecting Differences . Student panel by association highlighted student voice

Phase 5: Virtual Learning Resources Three online learning modules have been created specifically for Catholic school leaders: Fostering a Culture of Encounter in Our Catholic Schools Fostering Catholic Personal Leadership Resources Fostering Data Informed Decision Making Modules include: Video footage from May sessions and interviews that include Catholic students, teachers, principals and directors Guiding questions and activities included that prompt personal or group reflection, and are appropriate to use with staff
