Transition to Kindergarten for Students with Special Needs (T2K) A Coordinated Community Approach Launching in 2023
Transitioning children into the education system is a partnership with the child and family, community agencies involved with the family and local school boards. Community Protocol for Transition to Kindergarten for Children with Special Needs (KFL&A)
Community Protocol In 2011, Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington partners developed and since then, have been successfully implementing a Community Protocol for Transition to Kindergarten for Children with Special Needs. This protocol is currently being adopted in Lanark, Leeds and Grenville as well as in Hastings & Prince Edward county.
Purpose of Transition to Kindergarten (T2K) Supports a more timely, standardized, coordinated and supportive T2K process for families and children with special needs Builds partnerships and ensures proactive planning amongst families, agencies and schools for T2K for children with special needs in the LLG region Aligns with tri-Ministry s expectation of collaboration between service partners to help support children with special needs as an essential part of already funded services This is not a separate initiative funded by any ministry

Timeline January Agencies share letter with families and obtain their consent to initiate & support the transition February/March Agencies fax T2K Consent and Transition Meeting Request to appropriate school board March 30, 2023 - Virtual Transition to Kindergarten workshop event for families April/May/June - School Board Special Education representative supports school to set up Transition meeting with family and agency.
T2K Virtual Workshop for Parents What is it? A Dual-Board Teams event hosted by CDSBEO & UCDSB with T2K community partners jointly attending and supporting T2K-LLG web page houses transition Tip Sheets and event resources How do Families Access it?
