Initiation of International Collaboration Initiation of International Collaboration Type and Extent of Funding Type and Extent of Funding The funding remains available for a maximum of 12 months after the approval date. The individual collaborative measures must be carried out within this time frame. Funding is available for the following collaborative measures: o Trips abroad (max. 3 months) o Guest visits (max. 3 months) o Exploratory workshops in either Germany or the collaborating Sub-Saharan African country/countries Funding is not available for the following items: o Insurance o PCR tests o publication costs o catering costs ospeakers' fees o printing costs for congress and conference reports o translation services African-German Scientific Exchange: : Sustainable Intensification of Agriculture

Initiation of International Collaboration Initiation of International Collaboration Eligibility Requirements Eligibility Requirements Applicants: Researchers who are working in the German scientific system and have completed their research training, generally by obtaining a doctorate. Cooperation partners: Researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa, who usually have a doctoral degree, can receive funding as cooperation partners of the German applicants. Please note: o All proposals must include at least one applicant from Germany and one cooperation partner from Sub-Saharan Africa who have both previously submitted a poster. o In the case of multilateral proposals, additional researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa and Germany can be included either as further applicants (Germany) or cooperation partners (Sub-Saharan Africa). o Scientists from outside Sub-Saharan Africa and Germany can only participate as guests of the exploratory workshops. Applications must be submitted through the DFG s Electronic Proposal Processing System for Applications - the elan portal. Access via: elan.dfg.de For the submission, please select the call Subsahara-Africa-DFG 2022/2023 IIC- Agriculture in elan. If you are using the elan system for the first time, you need to register prior to submitting your proposal, providing your complete personal and address details no later than 21 February 2023. Before submitting an application, all applicants and all cooperation partners involved in the application must have registered in the elan portal. Initiation of International Collaboration Initiation of International Collaboration How to apply (II) How to apply (II) Step 1: o Before the application, use the information sheet and the guidelines for use to find out about necessary requirements and conditions (see slide 9 ). Step 2: o Only use the corresponding template to describe the project. Please attach this document in PDF format to the electronic form later. Step 3: o o Fill in the electronic application form. Required attachments: Invitation letters from the participating institutions at Germany and Africa. Scientific curricula vitae of all applicants and all cooperation partners with a list of max. 10 most important publications. Initiation of International Collaboration Initiation of International Collaboration Central Status Workshop (I) Central Status Workshop (I) Where: When: Who: Bonn/Germany Week of 08 to 12 April 2024 Participation will be limited to applicants from Germany and the cooperation partners from Sub-Saharan Africa Objectives: o Presentation and discussion of the results of the initiation phase and ideas for joint research proposals o Assessment of the need for a possible subsequent call for project proposals o Collection of lessons learnt regarding the frameworks within which Sub-Saharan African/German collaborations can evolve o Exchange between the scientific communities and their funding organisations from Germany and Sub-Saharan Africa African-German Scientific Exchange: : Sustainable Intensification of Agriculture

Initiation of International Collaboration Initiation of International Collaboration Central Status Workshop (II) Central Status Workshop (II) Integration of the Status Workshop into the initiation phase: Approved travel funds must be used to enable the cooperation partners from Sub-Saharan Africa to participate in the Status Workshop. Guest visits of the cooperation partners must be planned in such a way that they will be in Germany during the week of 08 to 12 April 2024. Transportation to the workshop within Germany shall not be applied for in the proposal, neither for the cooperation partners nor for the applicants.
