Church This week, we ll be asking the following four questions: Why is Church more important than just having fellowship? What does the Bible call the Church? What are the unique elements of the Church we don t find elsewhere? How does contributing to Church extend our faith?
Why Is Church More Important Than Just Having Fellowship? Occasional fellowship and personal prayer are not enough. The Bible (in both the Old Testament and New Testament) often focuses on God s people as a whole and when it focuses on single people, it often depicts them as representative of others. The sacraments form the Church as God s people.
What Does The Bible Call The Church? Here are some images the Bible gives us to think about the Church: The Body The Bride The Building The Family
What Are The Unique Elements of Church We Don t Find Elsewhere? Are we just a Jesus club? What does membership mean in a Church? Introducing the Sacraments: Baptism The Lord s Supper Marriage
How Does Contributing to Church Extend Our Faith? Commitment to one another strengths our commitment to God and vice-versa. We help each other recognise the importance of belonging over doing, which helps our faith flourish. Giving helps us experience a purpose and value in what we can share. We build one another up. It s mutual! We love one another. This points us to the love of God.
Some Questions For Reflection What have you committed, given, or contributed to? What would make your commitment more real? What limits do you have on your commitment to Church? How will this week s material shape your engagement and commitment to Church?
