Foundation of Estonian UAS Applied (professional) higher education is higher education of the first cycle, the purpose of which is to acquire the competencies necessary for working in a certain profession or for continuing studies at the master s level; Today Estonian Rectors Conference of UAS includes 10 Estonian universities of applied sciences: 2 private institutions; 8 state professional higher education institutions.

Important Dates October 16, 1940 Tallinn Medical School was founded; 2002 Basic nursing education studies started in Kohtla-J rve Medical School; 2005 Tallinn Medical School became a higher education institution and was renamed Tallinn Health Care College; 2006 Kohtla-J rve Medical School became a structural unit of Tallinn Health Care College; 2007 studies started in P rnu Hospital.
