  2. #1 - WHAT IS A SPONSORED PROJECT? Defined as an activity that is supported by an external (or internal) entity for research, outreach programs, training, workshops or services with one or more of the following attributes: The funding comes in the form of a contract or grant agreement. The project includes a scope of work, requires technical or financial reports, has funding restrictions or a requirement to return unspent funds to a sponsor. The funding agreement includes terms and conditions related to publication of results, audit requirements and retention of records, intellectual property, equipment ownership, insurance/indemnification or warranty The sponsored project includes research compliance requirements in Human Subjects, Vertebrate Animals, Biohazards, or Export Controls

  3. #2 WHAT ARE SOME PLACES TO FIND FUNDING? SPIN for external opportunity searches and alerts The Research and Scholarship Advisory Committee and the Office of Faculty Development for internal opportunities Signing up for alerts through Grants.gov and the Federal Register will alert you to when new federally-funded opportunities are posted

  4. #3 WHAT SERVICES DOES SPAR OFFER BEFORE A GRANT IS AWARDED? (P1) Idea development and planning Funding opportunity searches Proposal editing Budget preparation Internal approval processes

  5. #4 WHAT SERVICES DOES SPAR OFFER BEFORE A GRANT IS AWARDED (P2) Navigation of sponsor portals Compliance with sponsor, university, state and/or federal guidelines, regulations and statutes Re-budgeting and requested revisions Review of MOUs, NOAs, or Contracts

  6. #5 WHAT SERVICES DOES SPAR OFFER AFTER A GRANT IS AWARDED? (P1) We are here to help you manage your grant(s)! Startup meetings to assess individual PI needs Budget maintenance, reporting, and sponsor invoicing Monthly payroll expense reports Hiring of personnel, processing of subcontract and stipend payments, and purchasing Kuali Build support makes it fast and easy to request a purchase or student worker hire.

  7. #6 WHAT SERVICES DOES SPAR OFFER AFTER A GRANT IS AWARDED? (P2) Purchasing SPAR can support any purchases that must be completed via credit card and/or will help you set up purchase orders as needed Hiring We work with HR to set up a student worker position, then manage the submission of hiring forms for student workers Supplemental pay for faculty/staff SPAR will assist with setting up Personal Service Agreements (PSA) and/or Honorariums Subaward contracts Travel Travel authorizations and employee reimbursements

  8. #7 WHAT RESEARCH COMPLIANCE COMMITTEES & SERVICES ARE ACTIVE AT SCSU? Institutional Review Board (IRB) Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) The Office of Research Integrity (ORI) Financial Conflicts of Interest Monitoring (SPAR)

  9. #8 HOW DOES SPAR SUPPORT INVENTORSHIP AT SCSU? Material Transfer Agreements If you need to exchange (receive or send) material with researchers at other universities (compounds, biological materials, etc.) for research or evaluation purposes Non-Disclosure Agreements used to protect the confidential, proprietary information of your research with someone outside SCSU Inventions and Patents SPAR works closely with the UCONN Technology Transfer Office to evaluate Invention Disclosures and guide inventors through the patenting and licensing process For information on State of Connecticut statutes on the Ownership of Inventions, share of proceeds: CT Gen Stat 10a - 98b to 98g

  10. #9 WHAT ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS SUPPORT ALL OF THIS ACTIVITY? Kuali Research - for external proposal development and approval; award management; COI disclosure Kuali Build for internal proposal submissions and post-award processes Kuali Protocols for IRB and IACUC protocol review CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative) for educational modules on all types of research compliance, including the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
