Review of Progress Memos Last Progress Report Memo due Wednesday April 15 Only 1 weeks left! Final Report Due 21 April 2020 Relief at Last!
Questions for the Week Many questions on Pressure Swing Adsorption equations and where to find quantities. For these definitions, I have provided a scanned version of Chapter 17 in Wankat in Canvas AIChE folder What do I use for pore void fraction in adsorbate, p, see Table 17.1 Zeolite Molecular Sieves 5A, p=0.34. What do I use for bed void fraction in adsorbate, e, typical values are 0.5-0.6. Where do I find K`? This is the adsorption equilibrium constant See Table 17.2 Nitrogen on 5A Zeolite K` = 5.40 (dimensionless) What about mass transfer coefficient, km,csee equation 17.58a and the Sherwood number correlation 17.59. Adsorption Breakthrough Regeneration
Questions for the Week P&IDs Where in the report do I write about P&IDs? P&IDs provide critical information on how the process is to be controlled and how it is to operated safely given surprises such as equipment failure and various equipment breakdowns. As a result, when you write about either plant wide control or plant safety you should provide the P&IDs.
Report Questions I will be turning this into canvas but will I also need to submit to AlChe with the link that was provided in the problem statement from them? No, you only turn things into canvas. If I select your report to be one of the best this year, I will be contacting you and asking you to fill out a form and I will transmit everything to AIChE. You do not need to do that. We need the short and long forms of the equipment. Is there a standardized template for these somewhere so I know I am using the correct forms? a standard equipment template can be found in Chapter 23 of Seider, see Figure 23.1. The long form can be the Aspen Report for the various pieces of equipment. You many need to do some supplemental work on the heat exchangers as we do not have the Aspen license to do HX reports in any precise manner.

Last Lecture Personally, I would have liked to have 1) the ICC around the corner from my office so that you could get your questions answered quickly. 2) the University to remained open so that lecture could have been in person rather than impersonally delivered and 3) that you would have asked me more questions throughout the year.
Before You Go Take a minute to reflect on just what you have accomplished in your years at the U. You came in only a few years ago with no idea what a Chemical Engineer was or knew and now you are able to practice the art of designing, building, repairing and running a chemical plant safely and with protections for the environment. With these skills you will have a wonderful professional life! I have benefited from the chance to know you. I hope you feel the same. Finally, stay in touch. I will miss you.
