WHATS IN A NAME Here is an explanation of how my state got it s name. This is the nickname of my state has been given. Equivalent to the English word Indian, Oklahoma was a phrase in the Choctaw language that described Native American people as a whole Oklahoma later became the de Focta name for Oklahoma territory and it was officially approved in 1890. Sooner state Here is an explanation of how my state got its nickname. Thousands of people lined up on the border and, when the signal was given, they raced to the territory to clam their land. Couple of people went early to calm their land. They became the Sooner Hence Oklahoma s nickname today is the Sooner state.

MY FIRST OPINION ABOUT OKLAHOMA. Before writing this report, I had opinions about the state I chose. This is what I thought. My opinion about Oklahoma is that I think it has a very pretty flag. I also chose this state because it looks like a pot.
EARLY HISTORICAL FACTS Listed below is the early history of my state. First know inhabitants of Oklahoma were the Osage, Quapaw, Caddo, Wichita, Waco, Tawkony, Kiowa, Comanche, the apache, and several other tribes of Indians. Exploration 1514- Spanish explorer Francisco Vasquez de Coronado is the first European to arrive. 1682- Rebert de la salle claims Oklahoma for France . 1803-Oklahoma becomes part of the united states through the Louisiana purchase. Settlement of Oklahoma was set a side as Indian Territory before the civil war opened for general settlement around1890 the sooners-were settlers who jump the gun. Statehood came poor ranching and farming state. Colonial and/or territorial days by the end of the day on April 22, 1889, there were more than enough settlers in the unassigned lands to require creation of a territorial government.
STATEHOOD HISTORY Oklahoma is the 46th state in the United state. The state s name is derived from the Choctaw words Okla and humma , meaning Red People . Oklahoma territory and indain territory were merged and indain was dropped from he name. On November 16, 1907, Oklahoma became the 46th state to enter the union that is how Oklahoma is the 46th state.
PHYSICAL FEATURES OF OKLAHOMA. Oklahoma has Ozark Plateau main land regions. Each regions is described below. The geographical landscape of Oklahoma is comprised of separate land regions. The Ozark Plateau, in the north eastern part of the state, is an extension of the Missouri and Arkansas landscape. The highest point in Oklahoma is Black Mesa at 4,973feet. The lowest point in Oklahoma is Little river at 289feet. The area of Oklahoma is Feet dip. Oklahoma ranks the 28th biggest state in size among other states.
POLITICAL FEATURES OF OKLAHOMA. The population of Oklahoma is 3.931 million people as of this date: 2017. There are 77 counties in the state. The largest county in size is Osage measuring 2,304 square miles. The largest county in population is 47,887 with 154 people. The five largest cites and their populations are Oklahoma city with 638,367 people Tulsa with 403,090 Norman with 122,180 people Broken Arrow with 107,403 people Lawton with 94,653 As of the date: 2017 The major highways in the state are the 1-44/ us-77 in Oklahoma city.

Other weather information Oklahoma city lies in a temperate humaid not humaid area with frequent variations in weather daily and humaid summer months and the sun shines about 69% of the time.
OKLAHOMA RESOURCES Water: Oklahoma has groundwater and surface water. The groundwater has 22 major basins. And surface as approximately 55,646 miles of shoreline. Soil: official state soil of Oklahoma is loam these soils are found on flood plains in central and western Oklahoma. Minerals: major minerals in Oklahoma are limestone, gypsum, salt, iodine, sand, and gravel. Plant life: plant that grow they are pines and hard wood trees, tall grasses, short grasses, sagebrush, and red radar. Some flowers are sunflower, violets, and phlox. Animal life: animals life in Oklahoma are deer, elk, antelope, rabbits, coyotes, wolves, foxes, prairedogs, and bison. Native fish include bass, perch, and catfish.
OKLAHOMA NATIONAL PARKS, HISTORICAL SITES, AND OTHER POINTS OF INTEREST. Some of Oklahoma s sites are the honey springs battlefields, civil war battlefield, Cherokee is a national park and also creek site, fort Gibson, and Washita battlefield.
FAMOUS PEOPLE IN OKLAHOMA. Johnny Bench was a famous baseball player. He lives in Oklahoma city. Ralph Ellison was a famous writer. He lived in Oklahoma city. John Berryman was a famous poet. In Oklahoma city. Garth Brooks is a famous singer. In Tulsa Oklahoma. Gordon Cooper is astronaut. In Shawnee Oklahoma.
