  1. The Humanities

  2. Vocabulary on the Humanities, or the study of what it means to be an individual person. I. What are the examples of the humanities? A. The Arts, or creative communication/expression i. Poetry = verse, e.g. Free Verse and Lyrics ii. Short Stories = prose of around 1,000 words and examples include but are not limited to the Fairy Tales, e.g. Little Red Hen and The Three Bears/Pigs/Wishes iii. Plays = stories to be acted out, e.g. skits/scripts and Macbeth is an examples of a play by Sir William Shakespeare Note: These are examples of literary arts, or creative expression that is written.

Lesson 1: 2D Art = creative expression that has a length/width Drawings, Sketches, Paintings, Photography, Sgraffito Lesson 2: 3D Art = creativity that has a length, width, and depth Architecture, Pottery, Sculpture Lesson 3: Musical Arts = creative communication that can be played with an instrument or other form of technology, e.g. scales/songs Genres, e.g. Classical Music and Jazz Performing Arts = creative expression that can be acted out, e.g. soap operas and dances Visual/Musical/Pe rforming Arts, or creative communication that can be sensed with the natural/physical eye

  4. Lesson 1: The Western Culture These are the Americas, or the Western Hemisphere. Freedom is the ideal of America although Central and South America can be more authoritarian, or strict. The USA is a mixed economy and democracy is the standard of this republic, or representative democracy. The Native American culture, or way of life, was socialistic and this means that they could not own their own property. Jewelry was a common, or popular fine art in America before 1500 CE.

  5. What is a common theme, or underlying idea, in fairy tales an example of folk literature? Answer: Finding justice in a cruel, or inhumane world. Examples of these fairy tales include but are not limited to: Cinderella The Bremen Town Musicians The Gingerbread Man The Magic Pot The Tale of Peter Rabbit The Ugly Duckling What are some other examples of Folk Literature? Answer: Nursery Rhymes, e.g. A Tisket, A Tasket Down By The Station Hey Diddle Diddle Little Bo Peep Little Jack Horner Little Miss Muffet The Muffin Man

  6. Lesson 1: The Eastern Culture Collectivity, or interdependence, is the standard. Family is very important to the East. Dictatorships are common here, e.g. Communism and Planned Economies. North Korea is an example of a planned economy and China is an example of a Communist country that is also planned by a dictator.

Due to their ideal of freedom, Western ways of life tend to be more individualistic while the East values family and other forms of collectivity more than their own independence. Art is an example of the humanities, or study of individual cultures and writing is an example of a literary art form that You invented during the Agricultural Revolution and Bronze Age. Other forms of art include but are not limited to the visual, musical, and performing arts. Theater is an example of a performing art, or creative expression that involves acting.
