How Trumps Immigration Plans Could possibly Ruin the Economy By: Jesus Suncin
Trumps immigration plans Presidential candidate Donald Trump has been the source of much controversy due to his somewhat radical plans for immigration. In short, he plans to build a bigger and more secure wall between the U.S and Mexico, deport all immigrants, and ban all muslims. He wants do do all of this without considering the any of the repercussions it could have on the U.S. or the economy
A world in Which Donald Trump Becomes president Now imagine what would become of the U.S. if Donald Trump were to succeed in becoming president and following through with his plans. Imagine a U.S. where poverty reigns and there are slums as far as the eye can see, and people live in ghettos. Where people cannot afford even the most basic necessities. A U.S. whose economy has gone down the drain. The worst case scenario is a world in which a new civil or race war has broken out. Where race riots and shoot outs between the few other races and authorities are the norm. And the people are ruled by an authoritarian govenment.
Building a bigger and more secure border wall Trump plans to build a bigger border wall without considering the impact that it could have on the economy. Considering the fact that the federal government has spent more than $7 billion on border fencing (Markon, Jerry, Building Trump s border wall not exactly easy expert say, The Washington Post). If such a thing were to be built, it would cost the U.S. billions. The money would not be the only obstacle either, some of which would include environmental and engineering problems (Markon, Jeremy, Building Trump s border wall not exactly easy experts say, The Washington Post). The government would also have to deal with those who don t want to give up their land.
Deporting all Immigrants Another of one of Donald Trump s plans for immigration is deportiong all immigrants. His reason being that When Mexico sends its people, they re not sending their best (Bump, Philip, Surprise! Deporting all Immigrants The deportation of all immigrants would also strike a huge blow to labor in general. Immigrants do the jobs that nobody else wants, such as baby sitting, or janitor, or other jobs that require manual labor. If Donald Trump were to follow through with his plans, it would cause the labor force to shrink by 6.4% . As a result, 20 years from now the economy would be nearly 6% or 1.6 trillion smaller than it would be if the immigrants are allowed to stay (Estevez, Dolia, Trump s Deportation plan prohibitively expensive , Forbes).
Deporting all immigrants A mass deportation such as the one that Donald Trump is proposing would also deal a huge blow to the economy. Such an act would cost the federal government $400 to $600 to deport 11.3 million immigrants. Immigrants actually add to the economy of the host country migration actually adds to the economies of the rich host countries, rather than subtracting from them. Ban Muslims Trump s plans also involve banning all Muslims. If such action were to be take, the tourism industry would suffer a major blow. According to a 2012 study cited in the business publication Economy Watch, the six countries of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE represent a majority of the Middle East s travel spending, and account for 37 percent of all Muslim travelers worldwide. Ban Muslims If the muslim ban were to follow through, money from airlines, airports, transportation, and entertainment would also suffer Just over a million Middle Eastern tourists visited the United States and spent an average of $6,000 each (Hyde, Rachael, The Economic Impact of Banning Muslims from the U.S.). Money (Tuition and other necessities) coming in from foreign students (Muslim students) would also stop.
