John 19:16-19 Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led Him away. And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center. Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS (NKJV).
The Cross of Christ 1. The Cross can be made of no effect (1 Cor. 1:12-17). Human wisdom diminishes the effect of the cross. The core of preaching the gospel is the cross.
The Cross of Christ 2. The message of the cross is foolishness to those perishing (1 Cor. 1:18-24). The very thing that saves can be rejected as foolish. It is the power of God.
The Cross of Christ 3. The offense of the cross leads to persecution (Gal. 5:11; 6:12-13). The disobedient will stumble at the cross (1 Pet. 2:7-8). They will persecute those who trust its power.
The Cross of Christ 4. The cross is the boast of Christians (Gal. 6:14-16). It was a horrible thing! But, it brought forgiveness. Accepting its power is trusting in God, not ourselves.
The Cross of Christ 5. We are reconciled to God through it (Eph. 2:14-18). Both Jew and Gentile (Col. 1:19- 23) It ended Mosaic Law (Eph. 2:15- 16; Col. 2:13-15).
The Cross of Christ 6. Some are enemies of the cross (Phil. 3:18-21). Denying the power of the cross makes one its enemy. Those trusting in the cross have a heavenly citizenship.
