Classical Meaning It refers to the golden apple that had inscribed on it "to the fairest" and was tossed by the Goddess Eris into the wedding of Thetis and Peleus Eris was angry having not been invited to the wedding and used the apple to cause discord among the gods and goddess'.
The Myth of the Golden Apple The apple sparked a vanity dispute among the goddesses Hera, Athena and Aphrodite. Zeus made Paris of Troy decide which goddess was truly the fairest of them all Paris choose Aphrodite after she promised him the love of Helen of Sparta. This led to the Trojan war. nkb .
