Objectives Today we will develop an understanding of how the technological advancements of the second industrial revolution led to the imperialism of the world by European powers.
Imperialism Definition The policy of extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military force. The New Imperialism The practice of imperialism during the last half of the 19thcentury, characterized by the great fervor in which non-European peoples were subjugated.
New Imperialism Causes Document Based Question Which economic, political, and social forces were most responsible for the new imperialism that began in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries?
New Imperialism Causes DBQ Carefully read the document-based question. Consider what you already know about this topic. How would you answer the question if you had no documents to examine? Now, read each document carefully, underlining key phrases and words that address the document based question. You may also wish to use the margin to make brief notes. Answer the questions which follow each document. Based on your own knowledge and on the information found in the documents, formulate a thesis that directly answers the question. Write a one paragraph response including your thesis and information from the documents to support your thesis. This response should be logically presented and should include information from the documents. Use at least 4 of the documents in your response.
