  2. 2 Peter 2:1-3 1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not 2

  3. 2 Peter 2:4-6 4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; 5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly

Are Empowered By Their Followers False Teachers A good way to dethrone a false teacher is to not give them any audience That is what Paul did - Galatians 2:5 We must reject those who teach false doctrine 2 John 9-11; Galatians 1:6-9; 2 Timothy 4:3-5 God says, come out from among them andbe separate 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 Don t give false teachers your ear! 5

Have the Power To Deceive False Teachers False teachers can easily deceive the hearts of the simple and na ve - Romans 16:18; 2 Peter 2:1-3 2 Corinthians 11:4, 13-15; Matthew 7:15 Be not deceived is commanded by God 1 Corinthians 6:9; 15:33; Galatians 6:7 Ephesians 5:6; Colossians 2:4 2 Thessalonians 2:3; 1 John 2:26; 3:7 Don t be deceived! 6

Have The Power To Cast Stumbling Blocks False Teachers The Devil knows our weaknesses - Revelation 2:14 Balaam taught Balak to entice Israel to sin Numbers 22; 31:16; 25:1-3 Don t compromise with sin and error 2 Timothy 1:13; Titus 1:9 Mark & avoid false teachers! (Romans 16:17; Philippians 3:18-19) 7

Use The Power Of Prestige/Honor Of Men False Teachers The praise of men is a powerful force and effective tool used by the Devil - cf. 1 Thessalonians 2:1-6 John 12:42-43 This tool was used by Simon the sorcerer who bewitched the people...giving out (claiming) that he was some great one - Acts 8:9-11 2 Peter 2:1-3 Don t fall for this tactic used by men today! 8

Use The Power Of Eloquence/Prominence False Teachers False teachers intimidate their followers using religious titles, educational degrees Followers dare not question their position or teaching Religious letters (degrees) and titles are more important than scripture - John 7:15-16; Acts 4:13 These are like the religious leaders of Jesus day Matthew 15:7-9; Matthew 23:1-9, 23-28 Be rooted and built up in Christ! (Colossians 2:5-13) 9

They cause people to forget Gods power (name) for false gods and false hope - Jeremiah 23:27 False Teachers They cause God s people to err by their lies and by their recklessness - Jeremiah 23:32 The Lord will hold false teachers and their followers accountable - Jeremiah 23:39-40 CONCLUSION 11
