  2. Language and Culture The relationship between language and culture is deeply rooted. When an infant is born, it is like any other infant born.

  3. Language and Culture It is not until they are exposed to their surroundings that they become individuals in and of their cultural group. From birth, their lives, opinions, and language are shaped by what they come in contact with.

  5. Language and Culture 0-10/11 months: Pre Verbal Stage Cooing 3-5 months Vowel-like sounds Babbling 6-10 months Repetitive CV patterns All infants produce the same sounds at this stage. After this they start to produce recognizable words words that are acquired by living in a particular society

  6. Language and Culture Physically and mentally everyone is the same, while the interactions between persons or groups vary widely from place to place. Patterns which emerge from these group behaviors and interactions will either be approved of or disapproved of.

  11. Language and Culture From this, one can see that learning a new language involves the learning of a new culture. Consequently, teachers of a language are also teachers of culture.
