The Role of an Ambassador
A diplomatic mission involves a group of representatives from one state or international organization officially present in another state to represent the sending entity. The permanent diplomatic mission, commonly known as an embassy, is headed by an Ambassador or High Commissioner. The embassy itself is the diplomatic delegation, while the office where diplomatic work is conducted is called the Chancery. Such missions play a crucial role in fostering international relations and diplomatic communication.

TEXAS 4-H WATER AMBASSADOR PROGRAM KELLEN RUSHFELDT
WHAT IS THE WATER AMBASSADOR PROGRAM? The Texas 4-h water ambassadors program provides high school age 4-H members and youth an opportunity to gain advanced knowledge and practice leadership skills related to the science, technology, engineering, and management of water in Texas.
HISTORY The water ambassador program began in 2017 with 16 Tier I youth selected. By 2018, 27 new tier I youth were selected and those who returned from the 2017 year became tier II ambassadors for the year. As time went on, more and more counties became represented with an ambassador and by 2019, 29 tier I ambassadors were selected. For the year 2020, 36 were chosen.
WHERE IT CAN TAKE YOU The water ambassador program can take you wherever you choose to let it. The program has a strong support system for many reasons. One reason that our support group is so strong is because of the scarcity of water knowledge to the general public. Another reason is that this program is geared towards the youth who have an interest in water related topics and maybe a water related career for their future. Being a water ambassador for your state looks good on your resume and can lead you to some very interesting jobs with a good salary. Contrary to popular belief, not all water related jobs involve one to be working near or on water. For example, you could be a chemist, a horticulturist, or even a GIS (Geographical Information System) Technician.
HOW YOU CAN BECOME ONE The process to possibly becoming one is simpler than one would believe. The first step is to talk to your local 4-H extension agents. They can help you with any requirements to apply for a position. Next is to write the essays over topics given that application year and to record a 1-2 minute video introducing yourself and why you should be selected as a water ambassador.
REQUIREMENTS AS AN AMBASSADOR The major requirement as an ambassador is completing 40 hours of work during the year. These hours can be collected through presentations and activities, exhibiting and promoting the program, and by continuing your education over water related issues and topics. You must complete at least 20 hours in the first 6 months and 40 hours by the end of the year. However, to earn credit for your hours, you must have constant communication with the advisors, picture/video proof, and you must log in the hours over what you did within 7 days that the activity took place.
THE UMBRELLA The umbrella is a term used in the program and what it means is the tier you are and depending what tier you are depends on your academy during the summer. This is the umbrella: Tier I- These are first year ambassadors and can range from grades 9-12. Tier II- These are second year ambassadors and can range from grades 10- 12. Tier III- These are third year ambassadors and are in grades 11-12. Tier IV- These are fourth year ambassadors and are in the 12thgrade.
