  1. The Spirits Work Romans 8

  2. The Spirit Brings Freedom Romans 8:1-2 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

  3. The Spirit Brings Focus Romans 8:5-6 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

  4. Romans 12:2 "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

  5. Colossians 3:1-3 "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God."

  6. The Greek word anakainosis, which we translate renewing, suggests a major renovation in our thinking. (Marva Dawn, Keeping the Sabbath Wholly, p.83)

  7. The Spirit Brings Family Romans 8:14-15 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, Abba, Father.

  8. The Spirit Brings Fulfillment Romans 8:18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. Romans 8:26-27 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God s people in accordance with the will of God.

  9. Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
