An Introduction To The Book of 1 Corinthians
This first letter addresses several problems these brethren encountered after he had been with them: 1. Preacheritis 2. The philosophy of man versus the wisdom of God 3. Rejoicing over incest and refusing to discipline 4. Going to law with one another before the world 5. Fornication and marriage 6. Sacrifices made to idols 7. Financial support of preachers 8. Customs of man vs. the Lord s order of authority 9. Misconduct with the Lord s memorial 10. Misuse of spiritual gifts 11. Misunderstanding of the resurrection of the dead
Paul gives us the full definition of the GOSPEL 1 Corinthians 15: 1- 4 All eleven concerns (and more) are regulated by the gospel and our adherence to the gospel. This includes our conduct toward God and each other Corinth, a congregation of all types of ethnicity and culture, could be and should be united in Christ! Paul s intent with this letter is not only CORRECTION in the church at Corinth, but PEACE!
As with all books of the New Testament following the book of Acts, this book is written to the Christ. It is, therefore, a book teaching US! It proves an end to miraculous spiritual gifts and the strength of the perfect word of God. Though very sternly written, Paul s words contain love that permeates his desires for the church. 1 Corinthians 16:24 My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.
