  1. What is Pharos? Pharos provides a therapeutic support service to children, families affected by parental substance misuse, and referred by either Social Services or Adult Substance Misuse Treatment Services parents and

Aims of the Pharos Service Promote awareness of the impact of substance misuse on the family, parenting and children Assist parents to improve family functioning and parenting capacity Enable children to benefit from a positive home, education and community life Enable children to develop resilience and stay safe within a stable home environment Support parents in recovery process Facilitate families access to formal and informal support networks

  3. What we offer: Our interventions are holistic, and strengths based, underpinned by Systemic Family Therapy and also Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma Informed Practice. We adopt a multi-agency, inter -disciplinary approach. Work includes Individual work with parents and other care givers. Direct therapeutic work with children. Systemic Family work. Parenting support/therapeutic parenting Recovery support for parents. Group work with children; and Consultation to other professionals and agencies.

Work With Children Make sense of and process difficult experiences Express thoughts, feelings, fears, anxieties Opportunity to be heard and ask questions Affirmation Develop understanding of substance misuse and impacts on themselves, their parents, their family Develop understanding of treatment and recovery process Understand living circumstances/care arrangements/ professional involvement Positive coping strategies and support networks Contact issues

Work With Children (contd ) Sharing important messages e.g. that they have not caused the problems in their family; You are not responsible for getting your parents to stop using substances Parents need to get help from others to stop using drugs or alcohol: it s ok to love their parent but not like the choices they make; their parent s difficulties with alcohol/drugs is not a reflection on them and does not mean their parent doesn t love/care about them:
