  1. Time Sensitive Network in 5G Mr. Mika Skarp, Cumucore Oy 2021

  2. TSN Overview (1/2) TSN requires deterministic data delivery with guaranteed delay instead of best effort with connections highly adaptive and retries. TSN goes back to the concept of circuits but they are called streams where network should provide: A network-wide precision clock reference Limit network delays to a well-known (and hopefully small) value Keep non-time-sensitive traffic from messing things up Time synchronization IEEE Std802.1AS (based on IEEE 1588)

  3. TSN Overview (2/2) Ultra reliability: Frame Repl & Elim(P802.1CB) Path Control (802.1Qca) Per-Stream Filtering (802.1Qci) Time sync (P802.1AS-Rev) Time sync: Timing and Sync (802.1AS) gPTP includes a profile of IEEE 1588 Synchronization Reliability Resource Management Bounded low latency: Latency Credit Based Shaper FQTSS (802.1Qav) Preemption (802.3br ) Scheduled Traffic (802.1Qbv) Cyclic Queing & Fwd (802.1Qch ) Async Shaping ((P802.1Qcr) Dedicated resources & API Stream Resv Prot SRP (802.1Qat) TSN configuration (P802.1Qcc) YANG (P802.1Qcp) Link-local ResvProt(P802.1CS)

  4. TSN Requirements in 5G (1/2) 5G additional functionality UPF 5GLAN support UDM group function Packet flow detection UE support

  5. TSN Requirements in 5G (2/2) 5G additional functionality TSN application function Timing source, satellite or oscillator UE support

  6. Management of TSN Same TSN source for all networks 5G network part of IT infrastructure Network slices to serve UEs Based on groups of UE

  7. TSN Functionality 1. Capability to synchronize devices in 5G-network 2. Capability to synchronize devices in fixed and 5G-network A. Virtual Ethernet cable B. Replace Ethernet cables

  8. TSN Use Cases Accuracy 1 s To be used in Non-Public Networks Industry 4.0, to replace Ethernet cables Process controls inc. video Manufacturing robots Autonomous logistics
