  2. How to ease the back to school transition: Preparing for the First Day - Emotional Preparation Creating Routines Preparing for big emotions and behavior struggles

  3. Preparing for the First Day - Emotional Preparation Starting school or returning to school can come with many emotions. Talk to your children about what to expect at school and how they feel about school. Discuss with them what excites them for starting school and what worries they have. Talking to your children to show your support and understanding about their feelings regarding school can make a world of difference.

  4. Creating Routines - Night Bedtime Routine Start new bedtime routine 1 to 2 weeks before school start. Earlier Bedtimes - start moving bedtime up 15 to 20 minutes a day Healthy Bedtime Habits Limit sugary snacks or drinks Limit screen time 1 hour before bedtime Quiet activities before bedtime - reading stories

  5. Sample Night Bedtime Routine Make sure you are ready for school tomorrow (backpack and lunch packed) Pick out clothes for school tomorrow Take bath/shower Brush teeth and wash face Get pajamas on Read a book or look at books quietly Lights out Sweet dreams!

  6. Sample Morning Routine Wake up Breakfast Brush Teeth/Wash Face Get Dressed Brush Hair Get Lunch Box and Backpack Head to School!

Tips for working through these big emotions and behavior struggles: Allow for space for these emotions and have healthy discussions about feeling Have clear rules and expectations at home Be consistent Keep a positive mindset!
