After that, there may be back and forth between our office and your team before the proposal is finalized. If you have questions prior to the submission date, please ask for help. We need the May 20th submission to be as complete as possible. You must have your institution approve your submission prior to its submission. TALK TO YOUR GRANT ADMINISTRATOR NOW!! PLEASE DON T WAIT!
3. Budget, Cost Share, and Budget Narrative Take it step-by-step. Section 1 THE FULL BUDGET - Include everything that you re going to need to complete what you re proposing - E.g. summer month, course buyout, etc No salary cap or other restrictions. Please be sure that your expenses meet the demands of the project. SSA does not cut budgets; they only accept or reject. Make sure you show value!
3. Budget, Cost Share, and Budget Narrative Section 2 Cost Share Cost sharing, as a general term, is the portion of total project costs related to sponsored programs that is not provided by the sponsor. As the prime award recipient, and as part of the terms and conditions of these award, UW is required by SSA to provide 5% toward the overall project total. 1.Cost sharing is normally in the form of a direct cost that would otherwise be charged or utilized to support the grant or contract. 2.Cost sharing may also take the form of Facilities & Administrative (F&A) costs. _____________________________________ While not required, providing 5% cost share toward your project is helpful. Can include: PI effort (salary + fringe benefits) A funded grad student
3. Budget, Cost Share, and Budget Narrative Section 3 Budget Narrative - Why is what you are budgeting important to the completion of the project? e.g. If project is heavy on graduate assistant-driven data work, but there is no graduate assistant funding, explain why.
3. Budget, Cost Share, and Budget Narrative Budget Narrative Provide detailed explanation of cost for all budget items. Explanation of costs should show enough detail to determine your budgeted costs are reasonable, necessary, and related to the project you re proposing to do. If you will engage a sub-awardee, that site must include the same level of detail for their budget costs as you include for yours.
