EXAMS AND HOW TO SURVIVE THEM Tips and Advice
Before the Exams You should receive your final timetables, showing rooms and seats before Easter Check all details carefully. Any issues please see the Exams Officer Mrs Venezia. Check start times usually 9.00am and 1.30pm
Arriving for the exams Seating Plans on display on exam noticeboard updated everyday You will be registered outside the room and called into the exam room before the start time. EXAM CONDITIONS apply as soon as you enter the room. Dress code is uniform during term time and during TT. Main Rooms labelled up with row numbers If you sit in the wrong seat you could end up with the wrong paper! Poor behaviour will not be tolerated!
What happens if I am late? Arrive 15 minutes before exam is due to start. If something goes wrong/you anticipate that you are going to be late telephone school on 841000 For these exams you must arrive before 10am and 2.30pm (10am/2pm for Cambridge exams) If you are late/very late we have to inform the exam boards. They will make the decision whether to mark your papers or not.
Items not permitted during the exams Phones, wearable devices (iWatch, Fitbit), watches, Airpods, earphones, earbuds, Smart Glasses, Tippex, notes etc are not allowed. Ensure that you do not bring them into the exam room. No food or drinks, other than bottled water (with the label taken off) See-through pencil cases. See through water bottles. No Watches, coats or bags in the exam room. Make sure you have everything you need calculator (without the lid), black pen, pencil, ruler, mathematical equipment
Items not permitted during the exams If you are found with unauthorised items, ie phone, notes etc we have to inform the exam board even if you don t use it/them in the exam. The exam boards will take statements and will make a decision on disqualification for the exam, qualification and could disqualify you from all exams for this summer. You could also receive a total ban from taking exams in the future. If you are found to be cheating in any way the exam board will need to be notified and again could result in you being disqualified. So remember no unauthorised items and no cheating, communicating or colluding with other students during exams.
During the exams Listen carefully to instructions. Do not write anything on the exam question paper until you are told to do so. Complete the front of the question paper when instructed. Do not open the questions papers until you are instructed to do so. Put up your hand if you have a problem, you feel ill or think you have the incorrect paper or haven t got the correct material as stated on the front of your exam question paper. When using extra sheets or booklets ensure that your candidate details are on each one. When finished put them inside your question paper in order.

During the exams You are in exam conditions as soon as you enter the exam room. No talking or communicating with others. No distracting others. Blue cards for those with extra time. Some students have clashes and will be in quarantine. They will be informed. You must stay until the end of the exam When you leave the exam room leave in silence as others may be still working.
At the end of the exam You must stay until the end of the exam. If you have finished before the end time be mindful of others who are still working. No tapping, looking at others, or disturbing behaviour. When you leave the exam room leave in silence as others may be still working Leave the exam room in an orderly way as you are still under exam conditions until you have left the room. GOOD LUCK
Dates for your diary Summer 2025 GCSE Exam Results SQA results, sign up to MySQA to access these. Release date Tuesday 5th August. IGCSE results released online on Tuesday 19th August you ll be given a login to access these at home. GCSE results released on Thursday 21st August from 9am at school. ASDAN results are released on main results day. Certificates arrive in the Autumn usually November. Letters sent home for leavers to collect from school.
