The Title I Program. . . Is the largest federal assistance program for schools. Provides support to students who are most at risk of not meeting the state s academic standards. Bases funds on the number of students receiving free or reduced price lunch. Supports parents by offering workshops and training opportunities to increase their involvement in their children s education. Overview of Title I
Schoolwide Program While an emphasis placed on students at risk of not meeting academic standards, all students at the school benefit from Title I funds. Materials, equipment, professional development, extended learning time, and teachers that are funded through Title I benefit all students and parents. Overview of Title I

Professional learning opportunities for teachers Collaborative planning for teachers Extended learning opportunities for at-risk students Differentiated instruction Computer based learning opportunities (Google and I Ready) Interventions and/or modification when necessary Millennium consultants to work with Science, Math, and ELA teachers. ELA Tutor that comes to the school Monday Thursday to work with our Inclusion students in small groups. I-Ready classes have students working on their path in ELA and Math. The Picayune Junior High will provide opportunities and encourage parents to become actively involved in the learning process of their children. Picayune Junior High will: Development of Policy Involve parents in the joint development of and amendments to the Schoolwide Title I School Plan and the process of school review and improvement. Conduct parent-teacher conferences at least annually, during which the Student Compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child s achievement, signed by the teacher, student, and parent, and a copy kept on file at the school. Jointly develop with parents a written parental involvement policy and provide a copy of the policy to parents. Conduct quarterly parent awareness meetings for input in the Title 1 program. Invite parents to serve on the School Improvement Team. Parent Involvement
Develop a school-parent-student compact (provided as practical in languages that parents can understand) outlining shared responsibilities for improved student achievement. Provide weekly electronic reports to parents on their child s progress via Edline. In addition, PJHS will provide a written report every four weeks to parents on their child s progress in a manner and format which is understandable and whenever necessary/practicable provide this information in another language other than English. Provide email addresses, through Edline, for parents to communicate with their child s teachers and the teachers to communicate with the parents. Provide a planner for each student to record activities and assignments to inform parents of daily routines and assignment due dates. The planner also allows parents to communicate, via written notes, with their child s teacher. Provide reasonable access to staff, opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child s class, and schedule observation of classroom activities to improve student achievement. Provide yearly documentation to parents concerning the following: Teacher qualifications Paraprofessional qualifications When a child is taught by a substitute for longer than four weeks When a child is placed in an English Language Learner Program Student scores on yearly assessments District and School Report Cards Schools identified as In Need of Improvement School Choice Option Transportation Option Supplemental Educational Services Parents Right-to Know
Coordinate and provide educational services to ESL students and parents. Work with local businesses and community agencies to develop partnerships with student and school recognition programs. Provide certain documentation to families in Spanish. May train and support parents to enhance the involvement of other parents. Provide assistance to parents in understanding topics such as the following, by undertaking the actions described in this paragraph: The state s academic content standards, The state s student achievement standards, The state and local academic assessments including alternate assessments How to monitor their child s progress, and How to work with educators.
