Reasons for tobacco use include peer pressure, relaxation, and the stimulant effect of nicotine. Nicotine, the main component of tobacco, speeds up the central nervous system and is as addictive as heroin and cocaine. Smoking is a leading cause of preventable deaths, with cigarettes causing over 480,000 deaths yearly in the U.S.
