TPS54335A Start Up Current
The TPS54335A power supply module exhibits distinctive start-up current characteristics during slow start, involving inductor and output capacitor currents. By utilizing small and large capacitors, the module operates through different current levels and switching cycles, ultimately entering hiccup mode. Learn about the charge currents, load currents, and the behavior of output capacitors in response to changes in current limits.

TPS54335A Start Up Current J. Tucker 11 September, 2019
Slow Start Current During Slow Start, the inductor current comprises two parts: Load curent Output capacitor charge current Ichg = Cout * Vout / tSS
Small Capacitor Case-2 x 47 uF Total Current = Ichg + I load Load Current = Vout / 1.66 Charge Current = 0.235 A At the end off SS time Ichg drops to 0 ADC. Ripple current still flows through output capacitors
Large Capacitor Case-2 x 1000 uF Total Current Charge Current 512 switching cycles at current limit Load Current Current ramps up quickly to current limit After 512 switching cycles at current limit, device enters hiccup mode. Switching stops, current drops to zero. Load current is supplied by output capacitors discharging. Vout starts to fall. Current limit = 4.9 A, I chg = 5 A, load resistance = 1.667 ohm
