Steph grew up more of a computer girl or a nerdy girl who didn t really care how she looked. Alexendra takes her out to the whirligig and makes her feel them and feel things that couldn t be explained logically after seeing the whirligig Steph began to believe in more to the point where she even got a boyfriend. The whirligig helped Steph recognize that in life not everything is too be explained with logic and some things are just random amazing things such as romance or getting a miracle.

  4. Tony Tony, a teenager living in Bellevue, tony finds himself struggling with keeping up with his mom's standards and what she likes but he never says anything about it. Tony longs to be able to watch R rated movies or play baseball with his friends. As tony says I didn t die, or I wouldn t be here, Bob. Instead, I dropped out of the race. tony is just exhausted from all the practice and work he puts into something he doesn t even like. When tony did bad at his performance and saw how disappointed his mom looked, he understood he couldn t keep doing this he then thought of the whirligig and how its shows courage and how it everyone needs to rest and take a break. tony then has a talk with his mother and mentor and was able to finally quit the violin. Whirligig symbolizes courage and how everyone and everything needs its rest or else it would just break down.

While brent was growing up his father kept moving for his jobs so brent had to meet new friends and leave his old life behind too many times, because of that brent was always reinventing himself, trying to fit in or be just have people like him. When brent was at the party with the elite people, the cool kids he felt like they were the superior and because he was just around them, he felt like gained just a taste of the Olympus, he saw those kids to be on the level of the gods so when he was fitting in he felt a glimpse of the Olympus. In this quote brent experiences the theme of unseen forces of Greek mythology as his new friends are they cool kids that go to parties and fun while he is the new kid that just wants to fit in so when he gets a chance to fit in, he felt a glmpise of it.

  9. Pg 34The bus was his ferry across the river Styx Brent had always been everywhere he had lived everywhere and met so many people, the one place brent never thought he would be the afterlife. In this quote the bus was his ferry across the river of Styx brent is describing how he imagined the afterlife to feel like how he would be in a place with strangers, at places he had never been too, hearing languages he has never heard. Brent makes the A allusion that the bus he was on was the way he would cross the line and enter the afterlife or as he calls it the river Styx, the river of Styx is in Greek mythology, one of the rivers of the underworld. The word styx means death. in the quote brent was experiencing unseen forces and how the greek mythology has a place for warriors and how death works.

He had always felt like a new version of himself every time he moved as he would just try to be liked as fast as possible. That always left brent shallow and person with nothing deep to offer. In the quote felt himself to be Adam brent was feeling excited he is in a new place that is warm and nice and so many new things he saw he began naming everything for himself which made him feel like adam naming the new world he is seeing. In this quote brent was experiencing one of the themes unseen forces where he was thinking of how the bible states that Adam was the first human, and he was the person who started life.

  12. p. 34 its moment of birth had been the crash Brent's life changed after the crash. It made him realize that sometimes bad things can chnage up our lives and change how we see things. Before the crash, Brent didn't know what to do with his life. But after that moment, everything changed for him. He found a purpose. His goal now was to share the spirit of Lea with strangers who were somehow connected to each other in a strange way. It was like a wake-up call for Brent. He met different people along the way, on trains or in busy cafes, and he shared stories and emotions with them. He wanted to bring hope and kindness to their lives. The crash became the starting point for a new chapter in Brent's life. The quote was personification giving the crash human aspects as it being able to give birth to things.

  13. Pg 60 I wished that I could be a bird. Live alone, far away from land Growing up Flaco had always had a peaceful childhoods up in the mountains but when he moved to America everything changed, he began living in the city where it was never peaceful. The quote "I wished that I could be a bird. Live alone, far away from land" is a metaphor. It means that Flaco wants to be free, like a bird flying away from everything that ties them down. The bird represents freedom and escaping from life's troubles. So, for Flaco he wants to escape his chaotic house, he wants to escape the fights that he sees in the city and just be somewhere he can enjoy his peaceful time.

  14. Pg 87 He felt like an escaped criminal whod come face to face with his own wanted poster. This metphor is like a picture that shows how Brent feels inside. He sees himself as a criminal who should be in jail, paying for all the bad things he's done. But the thing is, he's actually free and innocent, and that makes him feel guilty. It's like a big conflict in his mind. The metaphor of being a criminal represents Brent's deep sense of regret and the need to make things right. He's carrying this heavy burden, feeling like he doesn't deserve the freedom he has. Even though he hasn't done anything wrong, this way of thinking shapes how he sees himself and the world around him. It's a tough emotional journey for Brent as he tries to come to terms with his guilt.

  15. Pg 114 "people are not Hitler The quote "people are not Hitler" carries a strong message that connects to the real world. It shows us that just because they are from a country doesn t mean their intentions are like Hitlers. As you can see jenny had always been obsessed with the holocaust reading and finding out everything, she can about it. While her grandmother had experienced and was always trying to move from her grandmother had even forgiven the germens so that she could finally move from it and enjoy life for what is it.
