Smart Start Grant Showcase Transforming Teaching w/ Technology (T3) Teacher: Jane Hall Title: Curriculum Coordinator District: Jasper-Troupsburg
BRIEF DESCRIPTION Data privacy can be one difficult part of integrating technology. It is important for students and teachers to only use sites and companies with which we have signed Ed-Law 2 agreements. To help assist with this, I created an easy to reference list of approved sites. Our district will be using computer based state tests for the first time next year, so promoting more regular computer usage and student responses via forms as well as encouraging more typing is another goal. https://www.jtcsd.org/Page/1258
GOAL(S): TECHNOLOGY USED: School Website *Develop a list of district approved Ed-Law 2d sites. Office 365 Various Ed-law 2d approved sites *Promote an increased use of technology to assist with transitioning to computer based testing.
Teachers Responses Our teachers seemed to like the list and the ease of usage of the clickable links. There has been a lot of confusion over the past few years of which sites are okay to access. Hopefully this will help to clarify and put all the sites in one convenient location. Our teachers have all been open to using forms and online responses to assessments to help ease the transition to computer based testing.
CHALLENGES/CHANGES Overall, I think integrating technology can be challenging and a bit intimidating at times. There are definitely aspects that make learning more efficient and effective. However, there needs to be a level of comfortability involved so staff members feel confident to try new aspects of technology.
LESSONS LEARNED I learned that our district still has a lot of work ahead of us. We have done a lot of work over the past couple of years in the area of technology and digital literacy. However, technology is ever- changing, so there is always more to learn and discover.
