I have been with DVR since 2018, I coordinate all Transition Services in the New Castle County area, partnering with or LEA s ( Local Education Agencies public or alternate, and additional stakeholders Adult Agencies and Families. Vocational Rehabilitation What are Transition Services? Transition services help students with disabilities move from school to post-high school; employment, education, specialized training, and independence. The services provided vary depending upon individual needs.
Types of Services The services received are arranged for and provided based on individual needs, so the length of time it takes to prepare for employment is different for each person. Counseling and Guidance * College and University Instruction On-the-Job Training * Technical Training Supported Employment Job Coaching * Referrals to outside agencies Assistive Technology * Pre-Employment Transition Services Work Readiness Training
Types of Services: Guidance and Counseling Together Participants & DVR counselors will discuss different interests and career ideas. Participants engage in the process of self-discovery to understand preferences and desires for employment.
TYPES OF SERVICES: JOB COACHING Some students may need 1:1 assistance from a jobcoach with employment, especially in the beginning. A Job Coach is an experienced professional who can: help individuals enhance their strengths and improve their work skills assist with career development or career advancement provide assistance with adjusting to a new work environment, opening the lines of communication between an employee and Supervisor. A job coach - can be a temporary or permanent solution to support an individual with gaining independence in learning the essential functions required of their job.
TYPES OF SERVICES: TECHNICAL TRAINING Technical trainings include Vocational school, technology or trade school, and apprenticeships. Vocational Schools provide job- oriented training for careers in healthcare, the skilled trades, construction, and other fields. Specialized trade schools offer technical training in areas such as cosmetology and the culinary arts. Apprenticeships combine a full-time job with training and prepare workers to enter in-demand careers.
Delaware Project SEARCH 8 This National Model, is a one-year transition training program for students 18 21 years old with significant cognitive disabilities who have completed their academic requirements but would benefit from a workforce development program that includes employability skills and internships in a local business. Students rotate through three internships at a host business to gain competitive skills.
Pre-Employment Transition Services PRE-ETS
What are Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS)? Specialized Services for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP), 504 plans, and documented disabilities. Eligible or potentially eligible for VR services. Students who have existing open cases with DVR. Planned services in coordination with their Transition Plan.
Who can receive Pre-Employment Transition Services? Students with an IEP or 504 plan, or documented disability through a licensed practitioner Students must be between the ages 14 22 Students who are home schooled
Five specialized focus areas Job exploration Work-based learning experiences Exploring opportunities for enrollment in post-secondary educational programs Workplace readiness training Instruction in self-advocacy including peer mentoring
Job Exploration The student's vocational interest inventory results The labor market In-demand industries and occupations Non-traditional employment options Administration of vocational interest inventories Identification of career pathways of interest to the students.
Workplace Readiness Specific social/interpersonal skills include: Communication Positive attitude Teamwork Problem solving Talking/writing Cooperation Active listening Decision making Conflict resolution Body Language Empathy Professionalism Good manners Supporting others Respectful

Counseling and Guidance of Opportunities for Post-Secondary Education & Programs Document academic accommodations Advocate for needed accommodations & services Identify interests, abilities, talents, needs, learning style preferences and goals Promote use of executive function skills Assist with researching career & PSE options Promote participation in PSE preparation classes, etc. Connect to PSE resources/ services/websites Promote use of self-advocacy skills assist with application/ enrollment process Identify financial aid options Take career vocational assessments Familiarize with education and vocational laws Identify technology needs Identify admissions test accommodations Access services & supports from developmental/ intellectual disabilities service agency, if eligible
